I'm running PR3's at 34F and 39R. I was curious about all the hype when I bought them, but they stick well. My only previous tire experience was with Dunlops, and I feel that the PR3's lean into the curves better, like the sides are steeper than the more rounded Dunlops, but it could just be my imagination. Of note, I rode the same tires on an abomination of a rental bike CBF 600) in Sicily this past weekend. The tires performed great, despite the lousy bike. My only regret is that I didn't ride those tires all weekend--on Sunday, I drove a rented BMW bike into a guardrail and went pavement surfing...all because of bad traction and poor road conditions. The PR3's inspire confidence and handle well. I'm a believer and won't buy anything else until they make PR4's!

    Hi there folks,

Just before I shoot off on a small tour of Ireland ( waterproofed everything ) just like to say how brill the new Metzeler Z8 Interacts are. Fantastic tyre, just right for the VFR 1200.
I rode down to Torquay, hammered it there and back and thought I bet I've wiped off 2mm on the tread. Inspected tyres - hardly scrubbed! Really comfy too. So, check them out!

    Michelin Pilot Power 3's.
    on the fence.
    36# front 38# rear.
maybe it's these red hot texas roads, but they do not stick like I feel a 2 week old tire needs to. I've broken loose around town a LOT. I've broken traction big time, in 2nd gear in a straight line for goodness sake.
did about 15-18 passes at the dragstrip though last night, and was going through 60 ft on the back tire every other pass, never broke loose out there. like... seriously. and out on the 3 sisters chain, it was a beast two up, not a worry in the world. so.. maybe the san antonio roads are just greasy, and maybe the tires are finickey for either temps, or whatever, but I honestly think I can achieve similar levels of confidence and grip out of shinkos. and that's a serious tipping point in my future relationship with Michelin. on my last bike, I could NOT get Shinko's Apexes to do wrong. True they're going to burn through quickly, but what doesn't when you beat on it? So... maybe I'll keep Pilot 1's on it, and maybe I'll switch up and stick the grippiest shinko's I can find and see if they stick like I want, but I'm not convinced that power3's are worth the extra money.

The real question is how long they'll last though, and I'll give them their fair shake.

couldn't have had anything to do with the 16" front could it? i low sided my 3rd gen and had many slips and 'high pucker factor' moments with that old bike. i always kept good rubber on it and still never felt solid when pushing it.
i now have an 04/6th gen and run PR3 up front and a PR2 rear just because the shop did not have PR3 rear at time of sale and rears usually wear twice as fast for me and the PR3 front has the tread pattern i like better for rain. i run 35-36psi front and 38-41psi rear depending on load/second rider or luggage.

I'm on an 07 so definately not a 16" front haha

it's just squirrelly. that's all I can really say. I kinda blame TX, and my own hooligan nature though. roads are too hot, and it doesn't rain enough so ...

I was running a set of Dunlop Sportmax D208. VERY soft race take offs that had all total maybe 1500 miles on them. Sticky as can be once hot, but treacherous when cold. I rode them all over the TN /NC / GA mountains and up and down Deal's gap before retiring them. Inspired confidence wet or dry, when hot.

Last week I had the Shinko 005 Advance mounted and I gotta say I'm not disappointed, yet. 40 psi front, 41 psi rear. I've got maybe 300 miles on them so far. They seem sure footed right out of the garage and on wet roads as well. I didn't have my hopes very high but they were so cheap I figured they'd do for a month or two until I found a deal on some PR3's or SuperCorsa / Diablo's or something but I may just let them ride for a while and see what kind of performance they offer after a few thousand.

I had some Shinko 007's on when I got the bike and discarded them rather quickly for a used Supercorsa front and Dunlop rear. Anything was better than those 007's. They were flat in the middle so maybe the PO never turned any corners or something.

Updated 8-17-13 - I have over 2000 miles on the Shinko 005's now and I'm still pretty happy with them. They are wearing well, sticking like glue wet or dry. My chicken strips are less than a 1/2" wide from the sidewalls, pretty much as lean as you are going to get them without grinding the pegs to a nub and have no complaints at all. Based on current wear pattern I expect upwards of 5000 miles, not to shabby for a set $160 new.

    Pilot Road 2's.

I run them at 36 front 38 rear. Love these tires, haven't tried the PR3's yet.

I'm running Battlax BT-023s, 40# front and rear. I replaced my rear after about 15,000 miles and have done 9000 since then. Front still looks okay, a few thousand left in it for sure. Most of my riding is commuting, but I also just finished a 7,000 mile ride to the west coast and back where I got to play in some serious mountain roads. They never slipped an inch in the rain or cold. Definitely happy with them.

Just tried PR2's and PR3's for the first time. The rears are good for about 10k miles. We did a trackday on them and while feedback was a bit deadened, we weren't exactly on track bikes (hard to pass up a TD at Laguna Seca when you're 4k miles from home). They never stepped out of line although the linked brakes made the rear squirm some. I am very pleased with these Michelins and will probably be buying them over and over.

I have the Michelin pilot Road 2 as well. I don't I think you can buy a better all round tire for the price. some have said they're too expensive, but they outlast tires that cost less by 2 or 3 times, so they're actually a bargain.

My only previous experience has been with Dunlop.
I recently purchased a set of PR3s for front and back... I can honestly say I felt a huge difference. The tires feel grippy from the get go and it also provided more confidence running the twisties. Tire performs great on cold temps. I have yet to experience this tire on a true wet road, but given the weather we've been having in the northeast... Wait a minute and ill add to my post.

The dealer I got my 2002 VFR from put Battlax BT023 on the front and a BT021 on the rear. I've only had the bike for a few weeks, but coming from a CBR600F2 with Pilot Power 2CT front and rear I'm not impressed with the tire. While cornering they squirm more than I'm used to and this morning it was a little damp and I spun my rear so easily rolling on the throttle in 2nd it felt like I'd just pulled in the clutch.

Then again, I'm moving from a sport tire to a sport touring tire. Perhaps this is to be expected?

    PR3s here and love them.

    36 PSI Front
    38 PSI Rear.

ETA: Great tires wet and dry. Rode to work yesterday am in a ridiculous storm and they handled great.

I have Pilot Road 3's but only 50km on them so far, so taking it very easy because still in the break-in phase. I have them at 36/42 PSI and I wonder why are people running at pressures other than the recommended pressures labelled on the bike?

I think it comes down to how you have the bike set up and what it's used for. Mfr pressures are a recommendation based on "all around" conditions. I have hard bags, etc but don't ride two up and have my suspension set up for a more sporty ride. The lower pressure allows the tires to flex more and get heat into them. FWIW on my track bike I run 34/33. My .02...

I'm running S20's on my Gen 4 and I love them so far, 36f 39r. The bike is very stable and predictable.
