The wife finally said it wasn't fair for me to have the ST1100 and VFR and a dirt bike. So I guess the VFR has to go. I've got it advertised here locally but all the folks that look at it only see a pretty red sportbike. They have no idea how much they short-change the VFR. I know it seems weird but I feel like I'm picking out a prospective husband for my daughter. No test rides and you better treat her right! I've got a couple 2014 Honda 250L's waiting for me at the dealership. I guess it's only fair my wife and I each have 2 motorcycles. She has never really liked the VFR. But she tolerated it because she knew I loved it. Don't get me wrong, I love my ST1100. The VFR just ups the fun factor a notch or two! We have always ridden together and I know she loves it when we ride matching motorcycles. She has never said anything, she is just a little disappointed when I ride the VFR and she is on her ST. And I was getting where my ST was rarely getting out of the garage and the VFR was getting all my love. Since we live in Idaho there are a lot of dirt roads to ride. And the VFR is not all that confidence inspiring on dirt roads. A couple small dirt bikes seem like the way to go. I also think this will make my riding partner a lot happier. If it doesn't sell I won't be the least bit disappointed. It's a great bike and never fails to put a smile on my face. But, realistically, I just don't have the room for two more bikes. And I'm committed to the purchase of the two new bikes. If anyone is interested in a great deal on a great bike, check out the classifieds. I almost feel like I'm selling one of my children. :frown:

I've ridden the GS and my experience is that it' just too heavy and tall for trail riding. I spent more time worrying about dumping the bike than enjoying the ride. It doesn't help that I'm height challenged! BTW, good luck on finding a couple CRF250L's. It was a miracle that I found even one. My local dealership couldn't even guess when they would get any in. They are one hot item. I have to make a 800 mile round trip drive just to pick up a couple.

I found a couple at my Stealership, they are not a hot item here in CA (Squid country) I can probably find used on other forum. Sh......:tape:
Just have to do some travel for pick up. Will see I might able to pull some string at the stealership for combo discount. As for vertical chalenge I am same as you . I have to lowered my GS using Hyper pro suspension.

    I'd sell the wife instead.

    J/K.

Talk her into letting you keep it. It makes you happy and you only live once. Nobody makes it out of this alive so do everything you can to enjoy your time here. If that means a VFR, then all be damn, keep it and tell her to understand.

I wouldn't put it quite so bluntly  (your missus rides so she's obviously a keeper) Try talk her into selling one of the ST's?

If she has her own ST, why does she need to like your VFR?

Sell your ST, and when you ride your VFR with her on your ST, don't ride at a pace she can't keep up

I understand where you're at. My 3 sons and I ride MX - the wife gets on the CRF100 every now and then. For me, moto is #1. My wife won't ride the street any more with me because she hates the VFR. If you're a passenger, then the accommodations do suck compared to a real touring bike which I made the mistake of taking her out on last week. I too might be moving my VFR along in the not too distant future so that my wife can comfortably do some 2-up. I'd love to get her back out there.

Yep. She has bad wrists. The forward position hurts her wrists.

3 years ago I had to sell my 97 VFR to fund the Yamaha TZ125 for track days. Similar situation as you have with the wife combined with a busy life as a Father its just the way it goes sometimes.

I miss the VFR at times but I rarely street ride at this stage in my life and what little riding I do is on the track. Most of us go through stages like this in our life. What is really a blessing is you are not selling all your bikes and not riding at all. You will still be on two wheels enjoying the dirt! IMHO thats a true motorcyclist. They find a way to keep riding regardless of the style of bike.

I'm clueless about resale values your side of the world, assumed you would get similar money for it. As Bubba said, so long as you keep riding, the rest is just details.

Oh, we will both never stop riding. It's nice to have a fellow rider who just happens to be your wife. She's the only one I know who likes to ride as much as I do. It is also nice to have 2 bikes to pack your gear for trips and camping. I love the ST for it's long distance capabilities. I average 50+ MPG with it. And it's hard to beat for wind protection. When I bought the VFR my wife wouldn't let me trade in the ST. She said we wouldn't get much for trade anyway. I figure they would have given me about $2500. To be honest, I just don't think she wanted me to get rid of the ST. I was actually amazed that she let me buy the VFR in the first place. I've wanted a VFR for years. I sat on one at a dealership about 10 years ago. The ergonomics were just right. Right then and there I knew if I were ever going to buy a bike other than the ST it would be the VFR. I've got a long upper body and short legs. That seems to fit just right on the VFR. It keeps my legs from cramping up and I don't have to strain to reach the handlebars. I have more or a gorilla body type.

I've yet to take the VFR on a long trip. So, I don't know if I would take a beating. I know on the ST I'm good for about 8hrs until I'm done for the day. I've ridden a lot longer. After about 8 hrs it becomes more work than enjoyment. The ST and I have traveled thousands and thousands of miles together. But, It's starting to show it's age. When I started to pursue a VFR I was ready for something that was a little more spirited. I had ridden several sportbikes and the acceleration was intoxicating. The problem was that the ergonomics were all wrong. And I really had to "wring" the bikes out to see any power. The VFR and ST1100 are the only bikes that feel like they were made for me. I see dirt bikes as toys. They don't have to fit. Maybe I will pursue selling the ST. I just don't think my wife will like it.

Well, I ended up getting a couple DR200's. I'm definitely out of room. I've got my garage filled with the two DR's and I have my storage shed full with the ST and the VFR. The only reason I have room at the moment is my ST1100 is in the shop. I'm probably looking at another $500 in repairs on the ol' ST. So, I'm dropping the price of my VFR to $3500 firm. If no one is interested in it at that price then nobody want's it. :frown:
