Hi everyone! I just picked up a 1991 VFR750F which isn't running, but will do by the time I'm done with it!! The fairings are pretty much junk, so if anyone has some laying around, regardless of how damaged they are, please let me know! I will buy them and fix them.

    See you on the road!

    Hey welcome to the forum!

Always good to hear about a third gen getting back on the road again! Keep us posted as you work out the issues and post up some pics of the beast, clothed or naked, as the case may be.

Welcome and good luck bring your 3rd Gen back to life. I did the same to my 3rd Gen this past summer. 6000 miles later and all is well. Where in VA are you? I live in Elizabeth City, NC but commute to Norfolk/Little Creek daily. Almost daily I ride my VFR to work.

Update...she's alive! All I really had to do was pull the carbs and give them a good cleaning. The rear two carbs idle jets are giving me problems. They were the hardest to clean and probably had gas sitting in them for a year. I had to take them off and clean them out about 3 times before getting it to idle on all four cylinders. Once it warms up, it runs good now, but starting is a bit of a b*tch. I should probably take it somewhere to get it tuned or something, but it runs pretty good. I did a 70 mile ride yesterday with no issues.

I'm in Northern Virginia...anyone know anyone good at tuning these bikes without charging an arm and a leg?

Here is a pic. I need to clean it up now and source a new right rear and right front fairing...but form 10' away, it looks pretty good!

Hard starting could be dirty carbs or marginal sparkplugs, which are easy to replace. Most guys don't bother poking through (steel wire .010-.012") the crud that builds up inside the choke circuit pickup tubes, the long, brass, non-removable ones.

Most carbs i see have clogs there, and compressed air won't do shit to clear them out.

I already put in new plugs. I have been cleaning out the needle jets with 2 strands of speaker wire, but I never thought to clean out the choke pickup!! Doh!! I bet that's the problem. I will take them apart...again!

I have a question about jetting...I have read that some people have rejetted the carbs with bigger jets. Is that safe to do and keep everything else stock? Can you recommend any? Can you speak to any experience with the carb rebuild kit on ebay? Thanks for your help!
