On my 2002 VFR I started up today and no headlights or taillight and no LCD readout for dash. I have turn signals and pretty sure I had brake lights. Headlight fuse was good. Is this the sign of a ECM going out or some other black box? Bike starts and runs fine.

Your gonna have to get a voltmeter and check those circuits for power.

I just experienced the EXACT same problem 30-minutes ago on a short morning ride!

Headlights are out, dash is dead (except for the clock), bike runs fine and brake lights and turn signals work.

I have a 2004 with 6100 miles that I bought in March of this year.

I haven't started the diagnostics yet.

    Any other ideas out there?

I've said it before and I'll say it again! Has the wiring recall been done??? If you don't know know then call the dealership with your vin and they can tell you if it has or not. It's free to have the recall done. They replace the front wire harness. The same harness that feeds the things that aren't working. Coincidence?

I seriously doubt the ECM is in any way involved in this failure as one mostly just sends 'lectrics to coils, and another adjusts FI perameters.

Thanks a million for the tip. I headed right over to my local Honda dealer and it turns out the recall has not been done to my bike. They ordered the part and now I just wait and then get it in. I'm new to the VFR world and this forum but have other bikes. This took a lot of worry from me. I envisioned lots of down time and big bucks but I'll sleep better tonight. Thanks.

Did you see reply from MrSleep concerning recall of VFR's with a wiring problem. My bike had not been done according to my dealer so now wiring harness is ordered and all should be well. As he said, take your vin to the dealer and have him look it up.

Thanks all for the advice and feedback.

The root cause was a blown fuse, and the two spare fuses had been used up.

I made an appointment at the dealer today to have the 'Q57' Wire Harness Recall and the 'P65' PCV Leak Recall performed.

Poor use of grammar on my behalf....the immediate problem was the blown fuse, hopefully the root cause is the wiring harness which will soon be replaced.
