Hi. My name is Tom and I live in Worcester MA. If any of you own early 80's Super Sports, you may know me from the CB1100F.net forum, of which I'm quite active.

On May 15th, I brought home my newest Honda, an '84 VF1000F that I bought from the original owner. It came with the tool kit, owner's manual, and 26,085 miles on the clock. It took a week to convince the owner that it wasn't worth the asking price and once he realized that I knew something about old Hondas and that I loved working on them, he agreed to my offer and home it came. Here's a picture of it just after unloading:

Overall, the bodywork is in pristine condition, but there was a rusty dent in the top to the right of the filler cap. Fortunately, it was the right place for a dent since my friend Mark in WV was able to easily repair it and repaint just the white part without disturbing the rest of the otherwise nearly perfect paint and decals. A fresh clearcoat over everything and now it looks new again. Here's before and after pictures:

Even though the bike sat for a couple of years, I was able to get it started after a little cranking, hooked up to my aux. fuel tank. It was obvious that the carbs were gunked, so off they came and shortly after, I shipped them to my friend Mike Nixon in CA to overhaul them while I tackled the rest of the issues. He's a well-known writer of many motorcycle repair booklets and speciliazes in many of the older Honda carbs. They're done and heading back to me on Monday.

In the meantime, I've been very busy attacking a number of issues that came with the bike. A missing kill switch was replaced with a used one from eBay, the broken horn now works, and then onto the more critical items. I removed the lower radiator, coolant tubes, and valve covers so that I could address a number of items simultaneously. First - I checked the cam lobes and they were all fine. All valves have been adjusted and to prevent future top end oiling issues, I have a Dave Dodge kit ready to install. All of the coolant tube o-rings and seals are being replaced with new ones and the system will be flushed before refilling.

While I had numerous parts off of the bike, I media blasted, washed, and powder coated them all to look new and OEM again. Here's a shot of most of the parts I did:

To give you an idea of what I was working with, here's before and after shots of the valve covers:

I've already reassembled the forks with new seals, bushes, and O-rings as needed and as soon as I restall the cooling system, I'll put the front end back together. Right now I'm waiting for my new valve cover gaskets to arrive. Once I have those in hand, I can button up the engine and get all the coolant tubes back in place.

So I guess you could say I've been busy. My goal is to have this bike running and registered by July 4th, which I felt was appropriate given the color scheme. As long as I don't run into any big issues, I think I'm going to make it. I'll keep you all posted and I look forward to getting to know you.

He was asking $1700 and I got it for $1300. I was satisfied with the price based on the overall condition.
