I had to change my thermostat hoses, so that required me to gut the bike including, the tank, the air box, and the throttle body. But when i fixed the problem and assembled the bike back together, it keeps dying when i throttle it. Any ideas on what could be wrong? It starts, and you can give it low throttle but when you go to rev it, the bike dies. please help!

First and formost, hello and welcome to the nuthouse fruitloop! Tell us a little about yourself, your girl (bike, or "other" girl too...lol), where you are located, and post a pic or we will just think you are a bot and constantly rib you until you yell mercy!

What year 5th gen? Double check your work, all that you did. Silverbullet might be might about the vac hose. This might be as simple as just hooking up a disconnected hose. Do you have the Honda manual (not Haynes)? I always take pictures during disassembly to help jog my ole brain as to anything I may have forgotten. Don't ya hate all those "extra" bolts/parts you end up with? lol

It's a 98. I'll have to go over it again and double check everything. I also have the service manual. And yes it does get frustrating when you do it a million times yet you just can't seem to figure it out. Thanks guys for all the help.

I have the tank up on my 98 as I'm taking the pair crap off. I can shoot some pictures of the airbox tonight if you want to compare.

Here are some of the hoses. Doesn't show the front hoses or the crap underneath.

When going over everything, I noticed that my variable air intake solenoid valve, is missing the cap that is on the top. Could this be the problem?

I don't think the bike should still run even with the airbox lid off.
Are you getting any FI error codes?

No i'm not getting any error codes. Would having the vacuum hoses not in the specific numbered spot be the issue? And also my power commander went from running medium to the bike running lean. Not sure where that would come from. Sorry guys new to bikes and could use the help i could get.

I recently did the same thing (coolant hoses, thermostat; don't forget to inspect/replace the clamps, or you'll be doing it again in a week). I pressurized the system with a garden hose clamped to the pump - that will show your weak hoses and clamps immediately.

As a result, I had similar symptoms, when I put it all together. The clue that guided me to a solution was that the airbox didn't quite sit where it used to, PCV hose from the front didn't quite route as easily. Turned out the throttle bodies didn't quite sit right. It took me a few tries to get it right, but you don't have to put everything back to see if you've got it right. I'd keep it simple (if there's a way to easily unplug the power commander, do that), pull the throttle bodies, grease the lips of the rubbers going to the head and pop the throttle body asm back on, run the bike (trial and error if you have to) until they are on there right.. Don't worry about the map sensor, it runs open loop when warming up. I'm sure there's more than one post on this forum about seating the throttle bodies. When you have it right, the bike runs right and the airbox sits square in the frame, no problem routing PCV hoses, etc.

Clear codes, plug in your pc when it's all correct.

To confirm diagnosis, rock the airbox while the bike is running. If the RPMs change, there is a gap which is your new throttle ;)

    Good Luck!

Ps. I used a long extension to reach the bolts through the frame. Make sure the clamp bolts are aligned for serviceability and they are nice and loose for fitment. Don't forget the grease

Oh, my gas mileage went up after I replaced the thermostat. The bike warms up way quicker now.

If this were a FI car, I'd say your MAF was disconnected. That will cause the exact symptom you're describing. Double check that all connectors are inserted & there are no frayed wires.

I know auto FI systems, but am new to bike systems.
