I can see the birth of a new VFRWorld member coming soon. There will be an introduction thread shortly; "My first bike! Non running VF500"

I am sorry for you loss. My VF500F was what started me down the VFR road but while I liked the bike I knew that damages like that was just around the corner considering how I was riding it.

I can't understand why anybody from Honda or any other manufacturer could possibly be bothered wondering about how fragile a 25 year old bike was. These things are built to a price to remain competitive in the market and the engineers are working on a new bike 5 years into the future not 25 years behind and besides they are only interested in selling bikes, that is their business, no money for them keeping old bikes on the road

I was thinking aboot something along the lines of the above poster when I initially wrote what I did above. The original engineers are long gone, they might even be pushing up daisies :rip: If it was a good design which sometimes is just by luck it would still be around, metalugical problems aside, it was a low cost unit and not designed to be re-buildable (from my limited delving into the wonderful world of the inter-ceptor high 5.)

All the new designers are playing Nintendo/Gameboy or gawd knows what and have decades of experience with aero-space materials which have trickled down to our every day rides...its light, cheaper, higher profit margin and may make it to the dumpster faster too...

Some engineers have something called professional integrity. I wouldn't class the VF engines as low cost designs either and they are patently rebuildable.
They obviously cocked up the valve train of the VF but one just has to google "dropped valve" to see there are millions of other examples out there so the VF is not alone.
But yeah, the original design engineers probably are long gone. I wouldn't like the VF500 valve train on my CV though.
