Eek! I hate needles! That being said, maybe I'll just have to "man up" a bit and become a pin-cushion...

Is the flexibility gain permanent (after a while of repeated treatment), or do you have to keep going back periodically to keep everything working properly?

Also, thanks for the kind words about the accident (same goes for everyone else too).

    Hey Danny

As I mentioned, I am not particularly fond of needles either, as a matter of fact I must freely admit to passing out when I give blood. During the IMS treatments, although I received a lot of needles, you do not actually feel the needle being inserted in any way at all, and they only insert one at a time. You can feel the muscles react by initially tightening and then loosening off when the needle is removed. Near the end of the first treatment I started getting a little light headed and thought I might pass out and the doctor told me that was a good sign as it meant the treatment was being effective. He also mentioned that the stronger the reaction to the treatment the more effective the results, and by those standards, I would certainly agree. I'm not going to say that it will be a walk in the park, and you won't feel anything, I would fully expect that you will be uncomfortable, especially the day following the first treatment but the discomfort dissipates quite quickly, and each successive treatment the discomfort decreases. My doctor told me that once the treatments no longer cause any discomfort, or very little, you have reached the point at which continued treatment would be pointless.

I would say the gain in flexibility has not been completely permanent but I could barely touch my toes at one point and now I can do that easily. My low back is still sore and I'm sure it always will be due to the nature of the injury, but the flexibility is vastly improved. So far I have had about 12 treatments total (approx $65 per visit) and the first four were one week apart, then four more about two weeks apart, and then two at about one month apart, and then the last two were about 3 months apart. During the winter the flexibility is definitely a bit worse but let's face it, cold muscles don't stretch as well as warm ones. I have tried accupuncture before and it helped but the effects did not last anywhere near as long. Kind of like your motorcycle, a bit of routine maintenance my be required to keep things loose, but if you slack off on the maintenance, well.......................... You will pay for it down the road.

One thing to remember, as my physiotherapist mentioned, is that every time you loosen up a bit you set a new benchmark, but you have to keep working at the stretching exercises. If you stop, the muscles can and likely will, shrink again. You have to train them to stay stretched. I believe that once you gain the flexibility you are trying to attain you may not need the treatments any more but sorry, the stretching routines will remain for life. Another thing you might want to try is a martial art such as Kung-Fu. Any of the martial arts will help train both your body and mind and it can help to become more of a lifestyle choice as opposed to a chore. I have taken Kung-fu for a number of years and it helps with everything in life from being able to calm your mind and relieve stress, to aiding in balance and most importantly keeping up your core muscle strength. Whereas some of the other martial arts I have tried required a bit more brute strength, Kung-Fu deals a lot more (IMHO) about strategic body positioning and using your opponents strength against them.

All the best and I hope things go well.

Wow Danny, I can't believe that happened to you! Glad your injuries are minimal.
Like you I love the sound of the V4. I'm only inspired by the exhaust sound of a handful of bikes, V4's first and 6's and triples next. I am actually taken more by standard/naked bikes than skinned bikes (my Interceptor forgives me, she told me so!). If your inclined that way at all take a look at the new Yamaha triple that is supposedly comming out next year. There is a slide show preview ay Cycleworld. Pretty cool IMO.
Hope you get a good settlement $for your bike.
    John
