I was referred to a local shop who will change fork oil and seals, as well as install owner supplied springs for $200 (forum discount applied). Much better than the first couple of estimates I received, although those included the new springs.

I will purchase the springs from sonicsprings. Based upon a Wet weight of 525 lbs and rider in gear weight of 208 lbs, it recommends a 95kg spring. Does this sound right? I am mainly commuting with the occasional spirited recreational trip. I will rarely, if ever carry my 130 lb wife.

Should I use 10wt fork oil?

Thanks for any advice you can lend.

I would like to order the fork springs ASAP, so I am depending on yous guys to gimme some quick responses :)

I weigh 210 w/o gear and am running 10wt with 1kg/mm race tech springs. I'm happy with this set up. Just me the slight amount of dive is nice, with the wife I have to be a little more careful with the dive but it's not horrible like the stock springs. Wife is about the same.

Appreciate the response! Is your ride plush, firm, or stiff? I would prefer plush-firm, but not stiff. Most of the roads around here are in decent shape except for the few rough spots on the I 15.

I'm 75kg and installed 0.95k/mm racetech springs. Ride is a bit stiff on my own, but fine when wife hops on.
I replaced the 10 weight oil I originally put in with a 50/50 mixture of 5 and 10, so about 7.5 weight.
It seems ok at the moment, but I really need to change the valving to improve the very average original set up.
Next couple of weeks I'll be installing gold valves and will report on improvements.

I have my preload maxed on the rear and the front forks are set so the ride is firm but not harsh. That way I don't have to change either when the wife wants to ride.
