Didn't the CA carbs just have an additional vacuum port that can be plugged and different jets which can be replaced?

Have made quite a bit of progress since my last report. Got the frame painted, got the engine cases and stands back from powder FINALLY, got a rolling chassis so I can move it if I need, and started engine assembly yesterday. The tranny, bottom end are in, the heads are just bolted on for now. Working on the clutch today, and have run into an issue... the gears on the clutch basket are not quite lined up to each other and it won't mesh with the starter clutch gear. I COULD REALLY USE SOME HELP WITH THIS!!!!
If this is the only problem we run into I will feel pretty good, but it sure is giving me issues right now.
Some progress pics and a pic of the clutch gears
    PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS!!!!!! 088.jpg 093.jpg 104.jpg 108.jpg 100.jpg

Not really sure but isn't the outer gear spring loaded? If so you may have to use something like a wedge to force against the springs to pull it back even with the other teeth.? Did you try and rotate it one tooth? I don't remember how it's built. I went thru the book and it doesn't address that at all.

Seeing your rebuilding your motor, where did you get head gaskets etc? Is someone making them now?

Grey, yes it is sprung, went back out this morning and tried again with a clearer head and got it in. Will give details a little later.
I got an engine gasket kit from Athena, they are in Italy, but have a stateside warehouse in New York. It had head gaskets, case gaskets, valve seals, valve cover gaskets, orings. I use a place called HVC Cycle in Lincoln, Neb to get the rings and piston I needed (all standard), they specialize in 2 strokes, but are in a parts network for oem stuff and have been great, even going overseas when needed, although about 15% over prices you see on the websites, but they can actually get the parts. Give them a call with oem part numbers and they usually get back to you within a few hours.
I have been using shspowersports for tranny and engine seals as it seems to me they have to be ordered individually.
I hope this helps, as I was really worried at first about getting parts, but have gotten everything I have needed so far.

Yes it does. Thanks a lot. I also use SHSpowersports. They ship fast so I don't wait more than 5 days for parts. I'll call the guys at HVC to see what they can get. I'm wanting to do another project with a V4 engine but need availability of certain parts before I begin.

Grey, I understand completely, I am really happy to have found these places because I wasn't smart enough to make sure of availability before I bought the bike, but its all working out. The guys at HVC are really great and have bailed me out a couple of times.
After looking at some receipts,I actually got the rings from PowersportsPlus.com, about $30 bucks per hole, OEM but they dont have the T on them, other letters that I can't remember what they are, the letters go up. Remember this especially on the scraper ring, as you don't want it on upside down. You can look at the scraper ring with a magnifier to make sure, the side with a small lip goes down, scrapes the oil down the cylinder.
Thanks for all of your help, and a great looking bike you have. I can't remember seeing one in that color scheme.

These manuals that I have (including factory Honda) are CRAP. I just spent about 5 hours trying to install cams, even after writing notes, per the Clymer, because the Honda manual sucks for this, and I'm going to have to do it again tomorrow.
It's making this really difficult to get this bike together. Kinda want to make sure its right before it goes in the chassis, as anyone would. chalk today up to experience.
Hope everyone is having a good day!!!

All you need to do is set the engine on the T-1-3 mark and install all four cams with the sprockets not bolted but on them. I set the cams in then put the sprockets in the chain close to or right on so they can be bolted on the cams. You may have to turn the sprocket one tooth more or less because of chain slack. So when you finally put the bolts in the lines on the sprocket are parallel to the valve cover surface of the head. Now it helps to back off your rockers so no pressure is on the cam your installing at the time.

Remember that all the markings on the cam will face up or down. It doesn't matter as long as all four are installed the same way.

Thanks Grey. Much easier after I threw the books into the corner for the day. Got the cams in valves adjusted, covers on. Now ready to get everything else on so we can get it in the frame in the next few days. Gonna have to get started on the carbs soon, and get the tank cleaned up, it's not too bad, I think some metal rescue for a few days will do the trick. Oh ya, and ordering more parts.................
    THANKS ALOT GREY!!!!!!!!

Well, while waiting for my helper to come and get the engine in I started digging into the carbs to get them nice and clean. They are vd75's but I don't see any of the plumbing for the cali emissions tubes. Could someone verify for me what (if anything) I need to do to these carbs. Not looking for jetting cues, just anything to make sure if there is plumbing I need to take care of. 1000 interceptor 021.jpg 1000 interceptor 021.jpg 1000 interceptor 027.jpg 1000 interceptor 029.jpg

Boy, trying to get some answers on this California emissions stuff is really hard. I think I have about 75% of it figured out. In this pic the 2 tubes about straight across from each other (the one on the right is capped now), I think both get capped? I do not know what to do with the tube at the bottom, I can assume I cap it as well, but not sure. The large hose at top goes to vent from my understanding. Any help please.
Anywayzzzz, here are a couple of progress pics as well. Yesterday was a good day!! 011.jpg 002.jpg 003.jpg

WOW, its been over 3 weeks since I've updated here. The bike is coming along nicely, have the engine in, rear end is in, calipers are all done(they were not nice), radiators are serviced and installed, most of the elec. is done just waiting for some parts to come, as I find new needs each week. Some of those parts I think I'm lucky to be finding, but finding I am.
*A note here, the oval oring in the countershaft housing is 16mm x 2.5 mm, can be had at a good seal shop.
    * A 2nd note, I know Honda coils are pretty pricey and I got lucky and found some direct fit 4 ohm coils at DimeCity last week. These are exactly the same physical dimensions as OEM, but 4 ohm vs 3 ohm.
I still need fluids, filters, lower oil bolt, and the like, but I am getting really close to turning the key and hitting the button!!! Hopefully by the end of the month!!
Since I'm waiting somewhat for parts (not like I couldn't be doing something though), and progress has been slow the last couple of weeks, I felt like I needed some inspiration today so I slapped all the bodywork on and snapped a few pics.
    So here goes... 011.jpg 019.jpg 033.jpg 039.jpg 031.jpg

I would be very cautious here. The VF ignition drivers are sensitive to different coils and are known to go up in a blaze of glory (quite literally) if you use the wrong parts. My suggestion is to get exactly the same thing to avoid problems.

The coils actually ohm'ed out at a lower number than the originals. But now you have me wondering Jamie.

I would be very careful. If they don't match exactly it could be trouble. I've seen this happen too many times!

Another good day with the 1000. I have been dreading the thought of putting the carbs in, but decided I needed to today. It all went really well, heated the boots a little, greased them, hooked up the cables, lowered them in, and about 5 minutes later they were in. WOOHOO! Then as I'm walking around the bike, I noticed the wiring harness clamp on the front right side of the frame, I thought it was one of the ones I bent when painting the frame. Went to bend it back in, and it was a no-go. Uh oh..., so I get looking a little closer at some pics, and lo and behold the loom runs OUTSIDE the front of the frame!! So, off comes the tail end, and the whole wiring loom so I can get it through the right way. Chalk that up as more experience of putting together something someone else took apart. Its all good though, just gets me more familiar with things, right?
Anyhow, I'll have a few easy days coming as I need to order a few goodies, hopefully about the last order I make. 008.jpg 005.jpg 001.jpg
