I just got off the phone with the Australian distributor of Sargent Cycles after enquiring about a saddle I ordered for my 5th gen VFR800 in mid-May. He said that there were supply issues related to Sargent USA experiencing workforce problems due to (1) a motorcycle accident and (2) staff turnover, and that they're back ordered up to February.

Just FYI in case anyone was interested in getting a Sargent saddle - be prepared for a wait (at least in Australia anyway).

If that's Feb 2014, I would be asking to cancel my order and look for a used one on eBay or better yet, get a custom seat made for you by a local upholsterer. I bought a Sargent and in hindsight, I think I should have gone the custom route. Not so much for me but for my wife, even though the Sargent is better than the stock seat, for the passenger, it doesn't appear to be tremendously better. YMMV

    Cheers

Whoops I probably should have clarified that. The Australian distributor said there are orders they made in February 2013 which are still waiting to be filled. He said "hopefully any week now", fingers crossed...

Where in Australia are you? - If you're in Sydney I can recommend that you see the owner of VCM Cycle Seats VCM Cycle Seats New and get him to do a custom job for you.

Kev is a personal friend of mine and I can absolutely vouch for the quality of his work.
His handiwork has appeared on a number of bikes featured in Australian motorcycle magazines.

I got one for my gen 5 from Sportour.com in two days in May. Maybe you can cancel at Sargents and deal with Sportour.

Thank you Rainbow7 for the reference! I didn't know about VCM until you mentioned them. Unfortunately I'm in Melbourne but I will definitely keep him in mind for any future work. I'll give AMC another 2 weeks and if nothing happens I might look at giving VCM a ring.

Kev actually does a lot of interState work. People send their seats to him and then he ships them back when completed. Keep it in mind, anyway.
