I am looking to get my first bike in roughly 15 years, so I am a little rusty with all of the changes that have happened since then - you know, the whole "internet shopping" thing. My wife loves it, but I am skeptical and she doesn't know bikes... so here is my question:

While I have been trying to find a pearl white VFR800 that is within my price range, I ran across a full blue one that was. I have never saw one this color, and I can't find anything that states all of the different OEM color schemes throughout the years, so how rare would this one be? It is not the red/white/blue - it is full blue. Is that an OEM color, or just a repaint? Is there a way to check based upon the VIN, maybe?

There was no blue U.S. model of the VFR800. There was a non-U.S. dark blue 6th gen but I can't remember where they sold it. I'd be a little cautious if I were you.

And in the U.S. for the 5th gen VFR800s the colors were red and in 2000 they produced a yellow one. And the 6th gens there were red, matte black, glossy black, pearl white, silver, silverish grey and of course the R/W/B one. I think that's all.

I am in the car business, so I know with cars you can get all sorts of info like that from the VIN. Can you do the same thing with a bike?

Thanks for the info, though. It is a 6th gen (2004), so it may be an import. I know a lot of military friends that brought theirs home with them after a deployment. I would like to find out for sure, though, since a different color may mean it was damaged.

You can get certain info from the V.I.N. like country of origin, year, etc. but I'm not sure of what info they contain.
    The U.K. had a blue 04 model View attachment 22740 .

I got in touch with the dealership and got the VIN. It was repainted, but the VIN doesn't show any theft/loss at least. I am getting a CarFax as well as having the sales manager call me with more info.

Thanks for the help - at least there WAS a blue version somewhere, if a bit darker than the one I am looking at: Honda 2004 Interceptor (VFR800FI)

I was gonna say there was a blue one available over in the UK. You could also pull the fairing off and see overspray of the original colour as well.

I haven't looked at it personally so I don't know if it's been painted.

Love that paint job, Randy! Is that reflective or phosphorescent(sp?)?

the listing shows as ended, but I don't think I like that blue as much. Looks a lot like a katana for some reason.

that is the official UK/EU blue for the 2000/2001 model. The pic is not great quality, but that looks like original, see my avitar ! If that is in the USA, then it has either had the fairing bought specifically from EU or is an EU bike import. Might have been a serviceman in UK or EU that brought it home !

    Best colour IMO :)

3M reflective one off decal kit from Ampco Graphics in Coquitlam. Should look familiar. The design came from the CTV Sportsdesk during the 2010 Olympic Broadcasting. A bit of a story behind that I may share with you some day.

Not available in Canada that I am aware of which is too bad. I think that colour is stricking whether you you spell it color or colour.
