    Hey guys,

I am installing the VFRness on my 02' VFR800 this weekend and just wondering if anyone else has done this recently.

I'm looking for any tips, warnings, or advice from someone who has gone through the process.

Was it difficult? Easy? Also, it's the bundled kit, because I have OEM hand warmers and a powerlet plug.

    I appreciate any input guys.
    Thanks!

I just put mine in this past weekend. It's pretty straightforward. It's a bit of a squeeze when putting your fairings on, but otherwise it's a breeze to install.

About the only tip I have is to read through the instructions beforehand, and then again as you install it. Just to make sure you don't splice the wrong wire. LOL

Just did mine a couple of weekends ago. It was not hard at all. Give yourself a several hour window so you do not have to rush and clean the other connectors while you have the fairing off.

I suggest that you listen to good music while you do it.

Hey I'm doing that this weekend too! We're keeping JT busy.
I'm also running wires to the front and installing a volt gauge.

That sounds great! I'm looking forward to doing this. It doesn't sound like people are running in to too many problems with the install.

I'll let you guys know how it goes after I do it. I hope it gets here tomorrow.

Also, what band do you suggest? (Lil Wayne, Drake, Offspring, Led Zepplin, Jonny Lang) ?

Oh, and for the first time, on my 3 hour ride home from college this week, she up and stalled on me when i was down-shifting for a stop sign. I believe I've heard of this problem being fixed after people have installed the VFR ness.. I'm really counting on the VFRness to make sure that never happens again. :)

No, he said GOOD music. ;)

While you have all the stuff out, you might as well test the stator and R/R. couldn't hurt.

The VFRness is for charging issues.

From that list, I would definitely go Led Zeppelin.

    2. Take your time. How long? Probably an hour+ if you're good. I think I took 3.5+, but see my comments below. Its OK to laugh at me.

    3. Find the best place to tuck your wires in when its all said and done. I spent about 30 minutes doing this.

    4. I'm terrible with a wrench, so when I did mine, I considered it a "big" project. But its pretty easy. I normally just change oil, adjust chain, add air. But this one was easy enough. I just took my time to make sure I didn't eff anything up, being a noob mechanic.

I don't know if the 6th Gen is the same, but on my 5th Gen, I soldered the wires even though I went with the new R/R and VFRness. My old wires were crispy, so I had to cut several inches off from the stator side. By the time I did that, now I needed to "extend" those wires to reach the new R/R. So I ended up with 6 soldered joints, rather than 3 (I'm referring to the stator to R/R connection only).

I know the idea of the VFRness is to just plug it in and be on your way, but I just felt better soldering it (based on all the recommendations I received from this site). I had never soldered before. I watched some Youtubes. Bought my iron and solder. Did a couple practice runs. Then had at it. 2 years later, she's still running and I haven't lit on fire, so I guess that's a positive sign.

That's not too far from the truth. I have said most monkey's have more mechanical ability than I do. So if I can do it, "you can doooo eeeeet".

I just installed the VFRness and an accessory block on my 5th Gen. It took about two hours because I had to take a break for supper and some TV. The biggest hassle was routing the wires and finding room for everything including the fuse block, the relay and the Power Commander. I also added and tested the Gerbings jacket liner. At 5K with no external load I show 14.7v and with the jacket cranked up I get 14.5v or there about.
