New owner of 1999 VFR800 on Vancouver Island, BC, Canada

Hello,
After a 13 year break from riding last weekend I purchased a 1999 VFR800FI. I couldn't be happier :biggrin:
I tried to upload a photo numerous times to the photo section but it always fails with an internal server error. Is there some trick to it?
Anyways, I'm looking forward to putting many kilometers on this bike.

Hey Long. He is from Victoria. That is on Vancouver Island so you have to go overseas to see him.

 

Fastest colour..... I thought it's already been established that yellow is the fastest.

Islanders are a different breed. I was one for 11 years but I snuck on a boat and escaped in '89. Rumor has it that hey have recently been seen to raise rabbits as feeder food for their alley cats which make for good hunting and a wild game dinner.

Not too many old folks in Victoria nowadays, Randy. Doesn't seem to be different than anywhere else anyway. Times have changed I suppose.

 

Old age is a relative thing to the observer. Maybe you have aged as much as I!

 

YOu guys should set up a two or three day ride over on the island. A trip up north would be a nice ride. I am sure I can rustle up a few guys to come over even for a day ride. We did this a few years ago too. Hell, I might be able to scare up long time missing VFRW member Borg who has't been around here since January 2010. He dumped his 06 on a ride we went over there for a few years back but I think it was repairable.

Welcome to the site from yet another BC resident. I don't live on the island but my wife's parents live up in Parksville so if I make it out to the island at some point this summer, I will look you up. Maybe I could even convince Randy to come with me. I don't think there are many old timers living in Victoria any more, as from what my wife's parents tell me, all the old people live in Qualicum Beach.

 

Yes, Parksville and Qualicum area has built up a lot in the last years.
A trip up island would be a nice ride, especially along the old highway in certain areas.
I've had my bike for a week now and put on 200 km but I have not been on a highway yet as I'm doing some maintenance on the bike, like changing the oil and there is a sort of howl from the front end I think that is related to the wheels but not the motor. It may be road noise or maybe the brakes... Still trying to figure that one out.

BB what type of noise are you experience? Might be the tire threads pattern that cause the noise.put the bike on center stand and spin the front look for binding,wobble.

When I lived there, the old Island Hwy was all that there was. And man was that a painful trip between the ferry terminal in Nanaimo to Campbell River.
