I've worked on model kits all my life and didn't know that...... I know bleach removes chrome plating, but that one.....no lol.

this is what I get to start with. the dash, doors, a pillars, and center console. I tried vinegar with no success, the paint that is stuck is really stuck so ill have to try something a lil stronger. I also may just stop where im at cause I might have the truck traded for a sweet Cadillac sts. Emmy my puppy wouldn't take no for an answer when she asked to be in the picture lol.

Sodium hydroxide, (lye) same thing in Drano and the non-solvent based paint strippers. Works @ + 70F. Old timey paint remover was a mix of regular flour, flake lye and water.

The Drano folks make big pesos on their product. A 25-50 lb sack of flake lye is a few bucks and a can of Drano maybe 6-8 oz. is mucho more.

Using it on that truck would not be a great idea. Some pro level stripping outfits use heated lye baths for stripping furniture. Another not so great idea. The sodium hydroxide also eats animal and plant based adhesives used for joinery and veneer. The mix also etches oak eating away the softer parts.

As for the trade for the caddy, I'm just waiting on the other guy to decide. He needs to figure out what's wrong with the car even though I said I would fix it. I'm dead set on the ignition tumbler being the problem and a cheap easy fix

OK update time. The project is canceled, after some testing on the caddy I've found the tumbler to be at fault so we worked out a deal. My truck as is for the car as is. The truck has some minor issues as does the car so its a pretty even swap I think.
