    20130524_130654.jpg Hello Everyone,

I just want to say first that this site has awesome members and great information that has helped me rebuild my new basket case. I recently purchased a 1998 VFR with 25k miles and a full Erion Racing exhaust system. I realized the bike needed a lot of TLC, just not as much money as I planned. This is my third VFR (previous 95, 98) and because of the great love I have for these I was willing to look past the flaws (laid down on both sides) and the rare full Erion system kinda made me see past the flaws as well.

Sorry for the long intro, but the problem that I have is this past week a storm hit and an 85 mph wind slammed my bike down on the right side. This "tip over" if you will, broke two body panels and I have full coverage insurance so this is no problem. When I started the bike to move it I heard a weird exhaust sound. When I looked closer at the bike I noticed that when it had been blown over, it snapped the right rear header pipe off just behind the flange that bolts the pipe on. I have called Erion and been told no luck on a replacement and that they do not even know the size of the pipe compared to a stock pipe. I called Two Brothers hoping they would know stock pipe size of have spare parts since both systems were probably very similar and no luch there either.

Does anyone have any ideas on the rear stock pipe size so that I could just replace the pipe with factory? Does anyone have any suggestions for me because I do not want to trash this full system? Thank you in advance to any help that you all can provide.

If it broke by the flange can you take it somewhere and have it welded?
    Do you have a picture?

I posted a picture and it does not show it, but it is broken all of the way through. Pardon the dirt and I need to polish the pipes if I can save them.

Wow...those are some thin wall'd headers.

You should still be able to get someone to weld them.

I noticed that also Slowbird, I think that is part of what made them so desireable because of the additional weight savings. I can tell you that it pulls like crazy and even with my 240lb butt on it will still pull a power wheelie in first and there is no pc on it. I am still waiting on the insurance company before I pull the broken pipe off. I am trying to find a great welder to repair. I imagine because it is so thin that there will be only one chance to weld it. I am also looking for a 45 tooth sprocket once I get the other stuff fixed.

I assume the TBros system is similar to the Erion. I have the TBros header and the rear pipes are much different than the OEM, they're a wall-wall fit where the OEM tapers down and uses a gasket for those rear header pipes. Your only best option is to pull it and have it welded. I believe it's stainless steel but a competent welder should be able to fix that quickly and cheaply. Good luck.

    Some pics for comparison.

    Hey vfrcapn,
The TBR header looks very very similar, I am sure that there are tiny diferences. You could always send me your pipes! haha I really wish I could ride on this long weekend because it is so nice here in Kansas. Thank you for your input and the pic may help me to prove the difference in pipe sizes to the insurance agent when they finally look at the bike next week. I don't suppose you or anyone else could take a measurement of the stock pipe diameter and post it for me. I only want this to have more proof for the agent so that they do not try to stick me with a factory replacement part.

I have the stock pipes and can post a measurement. Hard to do with the TBros as they are on the bike.

Because of where the crack is and the need to be able to slide that stud connector flange over the pipe you're best off taking the header to a stainless steel fan shop and have them cut off the end of the pipe about 3-4 " and fabricate an exact duplicate from the cut off piece with a flared slip joint and then have the Slip joint reattached with a full seam weld. It's going to be about 3-4 hours of work and they will charge about $300- if they are willing to take the job. I would not take it to an exhaust shop unless they can weld stainless which is highly unlikely.

There is another economic solution is to order a stainless steel clamp off eBay and get some exhaust repair compound and slip a clamp over it, but order the clamp from U.K., here is the link.

    Look at this on eBay:
