I just bought my 06 with about 11K and the chain is junk. The PO didn't seem to think maintenance was all that important. So ordered the parts and a chain tool. I just spent two hours cleaning and I'm still not done. And I'm a slob. Anyway while I was cleaning I had the pinch bolt in the back loose and I was turning the eccentric adjuster to clean it and I noticed the whole hub moved sideways. I can grab it and it will shift left-right about 1/32". I turned the pinch bolt with my fingers until it was just snug. Now it holds the hub and I could not move it. It turns freely, there is no grinding noise. I did hear an odd sound that I'm pretty sure was the bad chain when I rode it home last. Is this side play normal? If so, should the hub be pushed to one side or the other when tightening the pinch bolt? Or do I need to be pulling the hub apart and inspecting things? My guess is it's a normal situation considering there are no other signs of bad bearings and it stays in place even with just finger tension on the bolt. I searched this and found nothing, BTW. Many thanks! I've already found tons of helpful info on this board.
