Man garage door openers are expensive! Go to your local pull-a-part and rip out a homelink system from a sun visor. Open it up solder wires to the first switch(one on each side of the switch). Buy a cheap momentary switch from RS or your local electronics shop. Solder the two wires to it(switch is just to complete the circuit). Wire in power and ground. I "waterproofed" mine with rtv but make sure you set it first! I installed this on my '90 mounted the switch above the starter button. Cost about $8.

I usually buy my openers from Amazon: $10-$15. Cheap and they work, what more can you ask for.

Yeah its pretty much a diy thing. You do get the satisfaction of mounting a switch where ever you feel is comfortable. I had a skylink system on my '07 RWB wired to my horn. Just wasnt waterproof enough.

Do you have any pics of the process? ;Im terrible at understanding stuff like this by just reading it. Do you feel the homemade opener you made yourself is of higher quality or practicality over the $10-$15 ones that FJ12 says you can buy online?
