Just purchased one of these stonking machines and need to know where all the bits are under the panels. The oil filter, drain plug, coolant tank, and you know to enable proper cleaning etc.
The MOM says Undo the cap heads and clips on the body panels. Cap heads are ok cos I have a key, but the clips seem to be 'use once' parts.
I took Viffer to the shop from where she was bought (machines are always 'she's to an Englishman) and they said pull out the 'T' . Well I did and the mushroom head broke off!! ???.
So around to the parts desk, 'they are special order Sir' and they are $2.50 a pop. >:(. "Your Kidding, a 10c part for $2.50. What else you got"? After sifting through the parts bin found phillips 1/4 turn plastic re-usable rivets (clips), push in press in center pin to lock in place, 1/4 turn center pin to release. Guess who by? you got it - Honda at $1.50 a pop. Bought two to test out. Work a treat but I suspect they will suffer from wear after xx operations.

What does the Viffer fraternity use for clips? At the Honda price it will add a min of $25(plus tax) to the service for the 10 clips alone!

Oh! and how do you adjust the headlight beams, the US manual does not include instructions. On a UK VFR web site they say the procedure is on page 67 (must be the European edition).

If you are talking about the little black plastic fairing
"bolts" the trick is you push the center plunger in, past
being flush, that releases the barbs and then you can
remove the whole thing. Push the plunger back out
from back, so head sticks up, now reinsert and push plunger back to flush. Hope that helps.

I'll check my SM tonite on the headlite adjust. The oil
drain bolt and filter are on lower left side and you have
to remove the left fairing to get to them. Air cleaner
is under tank. Did you get the small, hand size, owners
manual ? It shows how to do all the basic stuff like this.

There are 4 adjusters, 2 vertical and 2 horizontal. The
horizontal adjusters are underneath the upper fairing
panel , right below the handle bars, the curved pieces
that go up to the windscreen. The vertical ones are up under the front end, above the oil cooler. I suggest you
get the factory service manual, pics help. I can copy pics
and post them maybe ? Your owners manual has order
form for Helm for the SM and you can now order them
online from Helm, $60 or so but well worth it. Let me
know if I can help more with this.

ScootR, Thanks for the info, will have a look tonight. ;D
Wonder why couldn't the dealer (shop) tell me this? Too many cruisers in Texas! Maybe I'd better look for another service point!
I Like the cans on your machine, what are they like for noise on a long run (i.e. when not ripping through the twisties, cos that's part of the buzz). 8)

The Staintunes are great, not that loud and make the
bike sound like a small block Chevy. I would prefer
even louder ones, maybe the Laser 4 pipe system.
Depends alot on what kind of helmet you wear also.
I have a Shoei X11 and with visor fully closed, bike is
    very quiet.

    Check these out !

They also sell a similar one at your local Saturn Parts Dept --- part # 21077123 for about $ 0.20 ;D

ScootR, thanks for info on 'clips', works a treat, they will have a short service life though. On the ones most used I'll replace with the 'Saturn part' provided by RedRocket800 (thanks).

'Clips' continued; The OEM clips on my bike look tatty after one removal as the 'wings/tabs' don't return flat. The Saturn pat 21077123 is $2.20 a pop. Diameter is slightly larger and is longer than Honda OEM part. Push in bit does not hold as securely and need a screwdriver blade to remove. A better solution for frequently removed panels is another Honda part - 90683-MBW-003 $1.50 a pop. 1/4 turn to dis-engage. Push in to lock.

They have two different lengths with the mating clip for the inner flange; available in 7 brilliant anodized colours. I have their stuff all over my bikes; it is truly the "dog's bollocks". Top quality bits and being in the USA I don't have to pay the 17.5% VAT! Give them a ring.

You might want to check the quantity. I believe that is the price for a baggie of 10, not each.
