    hey,

new to bikes and wanting to start making this one rideable. one issue that i found is that the shifter is hitting the kickstand. i read in the honda shop manual that there is some punch marks that are supposed to be lined up. im goin to have to look harder at it again to see if its lined up correctly or not. but it appears i can just loosen the shifter arm and re-index it with the shiftshaft and it will clear the kickstand.

would that be an acceptable solution or is there another reason for the alignment marks? will it hurt anything if i move it? i dont see any reason not too.

i just need the expert opinions from the forum!

    thanks everyone

The early kickstands weren't that robust and bend over time. Take it off, block it up on both ends, and smack the livin shit out of the middle of it with the biggest hammer you can find.

My dad used to do that to me all the time Tink. That doesn't work.

If you take the stand off and reshape it, you might want to look at where it is bending and maybe beef that spot up a little with a welded strap of steel. Don't go too much though as it may compromise the effectiveness of any springs that are there to make the stand work. Just a though if like Tink says, they have a history of being inadequately made in the first place.

Would a torque wrench with a 1/2" drive work? I know it really is great for smashing aluminum cans.

Yes, you are permitted to remove the bolt, slide the fitting off, and change spline positions.

cool. thanks everybody. so the culprit is the kickstand. i think i might just take it off and use the other stand (dont know what thats called but the bigger more stable one that picks up the rear end lol) thatll be a hassle but im planning on riding it not parking it everywhere

Bad idea. Whatever you do, keep the side stand. Getting off your bike and trying to stabilize it while you are trying to put down the center stand at the same time you are guaranteed to drop your bike at least once. Take some time and bend that side stand back to where it should be. You are half way there already if you have removed it anyways.
