Hi everybody, I am Chris, I am living for the time being in Wichita Kansas, USA. I will be picking up my 1998 VFR800 on monday! I am so excited, it is a beautiful bike! I was encouraged to get a VFR by a local friend and also a forum member. I will say he has good taste in bikes, he saved me from buying a 1994 CBR600F2. Yeah the VFR was a bit more money, but I will see when I get it on the road! So hello all! Chris
Welcome aboard I was just in Wichita a couple weeks ago. It was the sunny couple of days in between the snowy ones. It should be nice there now, I guess. Enjoy your bike!
:welcome: to the nuts house You have a good friend there, you own him dinner and drink for getting you to the RIGHT direction ound: Enjoy your new ride and be safe ATGATT
Welcome to the land of the elite Chris. You should enjoy the ride and as Long says. ATGATT. But don't take any riding advise from him.
Welcome aboard, Chris, and good on you for posting some pics of that pretty girl right in your first post!
Welcome to the Madhouse from the other side of the Pond :welcome:! Nice to see photos :clap2:- that looks like it was someone's pride and joy with a real comfy seat and monster exhaust! :vtr2: Until you get used to the weight - take care when stopping, as these things can suddenly adopt horizontal parking mode. The bike looks mint so you might want to think of adding some decent frame sliders. Take care SkiMad
Thanks for all the hello's! I know it is gonna be a great day monday when I get my ride! I am calling it my mid-life crisis! This isn't my first forum so posting pics wasn't too difficult for me to figure out. So theres a trick to braking huh? Do tell! My last bike was a Kawasaki 440LTD so there will be a learning curve for accelerating as well but I have been riding bikes since I was 5 so it shouildn't be too difficult! Thanks again all!!!
Welcome Chris, BTW, you do realize that you just bought one of the best-of-the-best VFR bikes. The other one is the '99 bike. Tell your motorcycle buddy he has good taste. First thing . . . research here the "regulator problem", follow the suggestions, and then you're good to go ~
Thanks! I didn't even know that, My vfr bud did chime in that I "Had" to buy it or else he was just because of the seat ( I think his exact words were he would give his left nut, or something like that ). I guess it is the best out there, I didn't know that either! So I gave the guy an offer and he took it! Lucky me right?
Dont waste your time fitting crash bobbins/mushrooms to fairing panel bolts, or looking for no cut sliders for that model VFR. The bike is heavy and if/when it tips over it needs some serious protection to avoid expensive damage to the fairings/other components. I know the RG Racing kit works - but does involve two holes in the fairing. They sell worldwide and come with a replacement coolant tank, needed to allow the steel slider mounting bolt to pass right through the frame. The kit is not cheap but is a 3 hour DIY install and can save a lot of damage during a low speed spill and the cost is a lot less than replacement fairing panels. Enjoy you Monday! SkiMad
Thanks everybody, hoping the weather behaves so I can get it tomorrow! It was pretty rough here for about a half hour tonight!
Well, picked up the bike yesterday, only miles from where that nasty went on its' rampage. Thankfully I only got a little wet and missed all the weather! Initially I thought a 240 mile ride home would be easy... Well I was asleep bye 10 and slept till 1 pm today. Not as sore as I expected though! The ride was amazing though, got to ride on route 66 for a couple miles, got an awesome onion burger in El Reno ( I saw them on DDD so I had to! ). But we made it home safe and I was dirty, tired, dehydrated, and covered in bug guts! But the bike was everything I expected and a lil more! Everybody was right, I need to give Luke some mad props for guiding me this direction! Thanks bud!
Well Cman26 Now you've done it......... You made your first ride on your VFR an epic adventure and you may have spoiled yourself to the point that you may never want to own any other kind of motorcycle. All of us here at VFRWorld will now, no doubt, consider you a new convert. May your rides be full of adventure, free of incident and may your new bike be more comfortable than a Lazy Boy with a motor. LOL All the best and keep her shiny side up.
I got the bug guts cleaned off of the viffer and snapped a few pics! Enjoy! The windshield is getting a lil yellow, so I will be looking into a new one soon! Any suggestions? Not 100% sure I want to get a clear one.
