Let the boyfriend ride your VFR. If he can handle it and comes back with a smile, let him borrow for a ride with your daughter while you bring up the rear riding his bike. Just make sure you girl knows when to get off if the boyfriend of the week gets a little nutty behind the bars when you are not around. I'm sure her big brother will keep an eye out as well.

    Hey Kizer

Pardon me for saying so, but did you just say "Let the boyfriend ride my VFR?" Man, what are you DAFT or something?? LOL. The premise is Ok, but I think maybe I might be tempted to shapparone the first ride with my son close by on his VFR. Liam can lead the group, boyfriend of the week (OH in the middle, and me out back riding WITH a shotgun. Anything gets outta hand and well............. WE STOP, politely ask my daughter to head home with her brother on the new boyfriends bike and we make the little bugger walk back to the house. This way we'll have plenty of time to decide what to do with the little hooligan when he finally arrives at the house. LOL. TOO HARSH???

    Hey Jay

As with my son, I have told them already that once they are old enough and have taken a motorcycle safety course, I will gladly assist them financially with the purchase of whichever bike they would like to buy. My son currently picks out every VFR he sees on the road (oddly enough they are a more common site around where we live. seen at least 5 this week) whilst my daughter seems to have a thing for anything with 2 wheels, an engine and plastic covering more than half the machine. Yes, this does include full dresser Harley's I'm sorry to say, but heh, she is only 3 after all. I really like the suggestion about telling my daughter "Don't let him get ahead of you"

Just pound into her head the importance of ATGATT and what an idiot squid looks like. Half the dudes she'll shoot down quick because they're too stupid to wear gear they're too stupid for her. Sounds good on paper right.........

    Hey Tink
Is he just copying the way that you take the bike out of the garage before you go for a ride or is the little guy bound and determined that he is going to learn to ride backwards. Waaaaay too cute man. I've been trying to convince my son for the last couple months now that we should take the training wheels off his bike because when he rides down the road they hardly ever touch the ground when he goes around corners. Granted we have been raising them up a bit at a time over the last while so that the wheels are about 2 inches above the ground now so they could hardly touch any how.

Last weekend, he watched me ride around the corner on the Viffer on my way home from work and he asked how I could go sooooo fast around corners. Fair question. My response was, "Well, it is easier to go around the corners faster when you can lean in to the corner." I mentioned that if we took the training wheels off his bike we could show him how cornering worked. He said, "Hmmmm, ok daddy, but only if I get to take the training wheels off myself." Fair enough, and I opened up the tool box and he found the appropriate tool for the job and he removed the training wheels all by himself. After that he pushed his bike out on to the driveway, stepped over the seat, sat down, pushed off with his feet like he does on his strider bike and pedalled around the driveway like he had been doing it for years.

The grin on his face was HUUUUUUUGGGGGE when came up and said "WOW DADDY, it is sooooo much easier to ride my bike without the side wheels, and did you see how fast I was going." Yep, that's my boy. Such a proud moment, and then he asked if he could ride the motorbike. Eeeeer, ummmm, well, "You might have to learn a few more things yet my son, like............... braking." This, as he ran his bike into the cedar hedge lining the driveway. OOOOOOPS.

he said "I don't do any cooking in the car so why check for oil?"

I love this thread. I took my daughter for her fist ride when she was 3. She was in front of me on my 3 1/2 Moto Morini and we went around the block together. Later when she was 6 we took a BMW/EML side car rig for a spin together. She still talks about this and she is in her mid twenties. Unfortunately I have no pictures of these events since this was pre-digital.

I bought my son a Honda XL100 when he was about 8 or 9. It had been through maybe a hundred kids and was painted blue, seat wheels and all. He loved that bike and spent hours with cleaners, rags and steel wool getting all the blue paint off everything. I put a piston in it and he rode that bike until that piston was worn out. My best memory was when he was first starting to ride. We had gone down to the land with our bikes. My dad has 19 acres just down the road from us. I was riding my Ossa Pioneer and he was on his little bike. We were in an open field and he was riding round and round. Finally he rides up to where I was sitting on my bike and says "Dad! You're not riding. You're not having any fun." I had to assure him that I was indeed having a blast watching him ride his bike and I was.

Happy Father's Day all you dads. You know what I'm talking about.
