There is talk our state of Northern Territory going back to unrestricted speed limits after trialing a 130kph limit, sadly can't see me getting up there to try out my VFR.

I thought that there was no restrictionsout there or did that change when the 2 Japs died in a Lambogini on the Cannon Ball Run maybe 10years ago?

A bit more than 10 years ago but Yes they changed it a while after the 2 Japanese died in a Specially built Ferrari F40. Idiots were about to miss a check point so went through it instead.

One of my eariest memories is of a freind and I running around our preschool room pretending to ride bikes, making motor sounds and all. Then in 1964, we were stationed in Taipei Tiawan, and the place was awash in small Honda Cubs. I was taught to ride on a Yamaguchi 50 sport, owned by our "yardboy". I was 13 years old
and the sensation of riding without pedaling was incredible. Haven't looked back since. I'm 62 now, have owned over 50 bikes, currently own 3. I'll continue to ride
until I can no longer throw a leg over..........but I never can see me on a "trike".......ever!

That was my/our buddy PoconoVFR. He still makes a cameo appearance, usually under our "New Jersey Ride..." type of threads. But alas, we've lost him to the dirt (not as in dead, but as in dirt bikes).

Back on topic: To be honest, I haven't truly figured out why I ride. Yea, I like the adrenaline rush I get, but its something more than that.

Its kinda like when my wife hits me with the "why do love me"? I can never really give her a good answer, and saying she's a great cook isn't what she wants to hear. But I still love here death. My VFR is the same way. I'm not sure why I enjoy it so much, but to be without it would suck. Even when its parked during our winter, any thoughts of selling it are quickly banished by some unknown power within my feeble brain.

I think its a great question that might even prompt some soul-searching, Alaskan. But in the end - for me - I don't care why I ride. I just do because its what feels right.

Perhaps it brings me back to my childhood days when I thought I was seeing the world with my new bicycle. The sense of expanding my world. Finding new and exotic places. Or perhaps nowadays its a way of expanding my ever narrowing world of home and work. Or better still it may be a bit of a real life video game. Where the consequences of your and others actions can have drastic results. Perhaps its a refuge from the mundane and ordinary transport of cages. I really can't say why I ride, but when I do I am in communion of nature, self and the universe. Perhaps, to paraphrase, you never really feel alive unless your on two wheels.

Because when I am cruising through the backroads with the same stupid song going through my head that I have been humming for the last twenty minutes I forget that I am overweight, closer to 50 than 40, trying to pay off 2 mortgages with a wife that I love that has absolutely no interest in what I do or have to talk about and a job that gets harder with a commute that takes longer every year.
It's just me in the wind, and I love it!

I ride for all the reassons listed in the beggining and amazingly it clears my mind. I become a Bigger A hole when I have to drive more than a couple of days a week.

I wanted a motorcycle ever since I was in grade school. I think I'm just wired that way- it's not a choice. Kinda like gay or straight- ride a motorcycle or don't. I can't not want to ride.
