Just picked up this somewhat barn find. First owner had it for 10 years, put 6000 miles on it then sold it to second owner who was into CBX's so the bike sat for 15 years. Finally gave it to his son who got it going only to have it sit for another 2 years. What's cool is that it's all there, never been messed with. I'll post more pictures once I have a chance to give it a good cleaning and have gone thru her to see what she needs.

Gave her a bath, look good, has a few nicks, nothing to bad. Inside the tank has rust, I think I'll try vinegar to remove(any ideas?). Carb's needs to be cleaned, fluids changed, overall check everything.

$2K is a steal for the condition and it even has the stock exhaust. You could easily turn around and double your money. I had a mint '86 with less than 4K miles that I sold last fall for over $5K. Welcome to the forum.

    +1

That is a steal, the body package in that condition even with the tank is worth about the price you paid. It looks amazing, clean up the internals, get it running nicely and it is a $5K bike. I spent almost that restoring my '85 and it isn't as clean.

I used POR on my tank and was pretty happy with the results, it's a lot of work. Welcome to the forum!

BTW, they do an annual VFR calendar around here, that's one bike that should be in the '14 edition.

$2,000 IS a sweet deal! I picked up my '84 VF1000 F off the original owner last year for, drum-roll please.......

    $1,000
There's pics of it elsewhere on the site.
It's better than "show-room" and I have EVERY stock piece that came off of it stored away nicely,

Nice find indeed. Friend of a friend? How'd you hear about it?

I've tried many home brews, electrolysis, and commercial brand tank cleaners. To some degree they've all worked.

Personally I like using Metal Rescue for my fuel tank restoring, best product I've tried yet and you can order online or through Menards (my local Menards only stocks 1 gal jugs, so I had them special order the 5 gal pail). Stuff works wonders and best part is that it's completely environmentally safe and easy to dispose of when you are done. Absolutely great stuff to have around for removing rust from all your metal parts (whether motorcycle related or not).

Then for re-lining the tank (if it's bad enough to need coating- not all of them need it), I really like the Red Kote product.

Youtube search for both products, many great videos on both.

Super find and deal! Once you get it running and go on night runs, I want to talk to you about your head lights. I'll explain later once you make a few runs. That is if you wouldn't mind.? TIA
