Well, it looks like my oem battery is getting ready to take a dookie on me. NOT covered under extended warranty. I figure if I have to actually pay for one, I might as well go for a Shorai and lose 7 lbs off the bike. Best price I've found so far is $160 with free shipping and no tax with a 2-year warranty. For comparison, Batteries Plus wants like $97 + tax for a regular lead acid battery at 9 lbs vs 2.2 lbs for the Shorai. So anybody found a better price??

That's pretty close to what I paid for my LFX18A1-BS12.

Might want to consider choosing PowerSport Superstore in Amazon Marketplace for $151.29. It a few dollars higher, but looks to be a bigger store with a lot more feedbacks. I've bought parts from them before. Just a thought.

I'd actually already ordered one by the time you posted. I was going to monitor it for a few days. Left it on the battery tender all night, assuming it would start ok after that. Pushed it out of the garage with all my gear on and it wouldn't even turn over. Pushed it down the driveway and dumped the clutch and it fired right up fortunately. Jumped it off a jump box to leave work today. "The Outlet" that I bought the Shorai from has really good reviews...hopefully I won't be the exception. Less than $150 shipped is hard to beat. Thanks again to MrSleep for the tip on Amazon.

I'm sure you'll be alright. Come to think of it, in the same situation, I'd probably order from The Outlet, since PowerSport SuperSport is in TX, which means I'll get charged sales tax.

Let us know how it works out for you. I really like mine. Starts every time. The low temp issue doesn't worry me, since it doesn't really get that cold around my neck of the woods. IIRC, there were only a couple of times this past "winter" I cranked on the Shorai when ambient was below 40F. Again, no problem.

I do have the Shorai charger, which I use once every couple of months to balance the cells. Probably not necessary, but I figure from now on, all my bikes are gonna have Shorai batts, so the investment will get amortized over time. I actually already have a Lithium batt charger/balancer for my RC batteries, and there are people who have come with adapter cable to use RC batt chargers on Shorai, but I'm too lazy to do the legwork.

Very happy with the new Shorai battery. The bike definitely cranks noticeably faster than it ever has. Whether that's because the Shorai is awesome, or because the original has had one foot in the grave since new I don't know. I suspect the latter. The bike had a Battery Tender pigtail on it when I bought it...not normal. Makes me suspect that battery was activated when the bike was new, two years or so before I bought it. How long do you reckon before somebody got tired of plugging it in, or the guy who always did it quit or got fired and that was the end of that? As for the weight loss, I'll let the UPS scale tell the tale.

Hard to believe the oem battery weighs about the same as my Givi luggage with brackets. Money well spent I dare say.

Haven't bought one for the 12 yet but have Shorais on my Zuma and R1. Both crank faster than OEM and while I have the Shorai tender/charger, I've never used it, no need.
