    Hi guys,
I bought a second set of brand new standard pipes off Ebay for $60!! and set about doing the partial gut as per this off the other site . When it was finished I wasn't happy with the way you could easily see down the exhaust and see the cut tubes... not something I want Mr Plod noticing should I ever encounter him...

So here is what I came up with...

I think it looks pretty tidy. The disks are stainless steel air vents found here on Ebay and rivetted into place. I'll be keeping an eye on them to make sure they don't work loose and start to rattle.

On a side note, I took some dB noise level readings as per the Australian Standards. Each bike in Australia has a plate with the exhaust level measurement stamped on it. Our standard exhaust runs at 87dB (A weighted) when measured as per the following pic at 5250rpm.

Using the same setup with the partial gut my pipes now run 91dB (A weighted) at 5250... so only 4dB louder but the note is so much better

    Cheers,
    Mick

Looks OK, but you have seriously reduced the available area for gas flow by approx 50% ! Be interesting to see how it compares to the standard exhaust, re noise & performance ! Plod would never look down your pipes :)

Interesting. A little different take on what I did with mine.

There's no performance difference at all. The cat restricts the gas flow way more than the exhaust and would have to be removed to create any real difference to the gas flow though the exhausts, gutted or otherwise. The noise however is heaps better and again, the little vents have perhaps added a little more rumble if anything.

Here in OZ plod will go as far as sticking a gloved finger into the pipes to check them... ask me how I know...

I liked what you did with yours and was actually looking for some mesh on ebay but didn't find any when I came across these vents.
