5th gen running rich, stopping at startup, low idle

Hi,
Put the bike away for winter storage having no problems at all.

Taking it out it runs rich (smelling gas) and I'm having problems at startup as it dies if I don't rev it up a lot. Quite a bit of white fumes as well although it is pretty cold here in the mornings.
Yesterday it died a couple of times switching from first to second. Getting up to speed it runs ok but my gear smells of gas and I get tears in my eyes after riding.

So, where to start?

 

Gas smell does not equal running rich. Have you pulled the spark plugs and verified?
Clogged injector?

 

Would they clogg up just during storage?
I'v just removed the PC to see if it's broken.
Will have a look at the plugs and filter too.

 

Other suggestions regarding the smell apart from running rich is of coarse appreciated

 

What year is your 5th Gen?

 

It's from -98.

Just removed a Power Commander II that was installed when I bought the bike. Could imagine but it felt better at startup and I didn't need to rev it. When warm it idled on approx 1200 rpm. Will check the filter and plugs but I guess the pc is faulty or something has happened to the map.

I think that the slip-on is the only mod made but when checking the filter I'll look for air box mods as well to be sure.

 

Didn't feel much gas smell neither.
