Hey guys, after much thought and looking over it I decided to turn my Viffer into a streetfighter. Well after some hard work and 1 trip to the ER (long story) i removed the fairings and front cowl, and the instrument cluster. now to my problem, once everything was removed the bike will sound like its trying to start like normal, turn over, the FI pumping, sounds great. but it wont crank? now i plugged the cluster back in and the only thing to light is FI? im sure this is a simple fix, and it ran perfectly right before i removed everything. any knowledge from anyone? Hmm

Along the way I guess you have disconnected most of the key components so you now need to methodically check the bike systems over to identify what it is you forgot.

So you can hear the fuel pump prime - so power is getting to the pump
All the lights on the dash are OK (Neutral - kill switch reset) - have you checked for sparks?
You hit the start button and nothing? - checked wiring to bar switches?
Or is it turning over well but won't fire? can you smell fuel?
Is the battery up to the task - has it been sitting unused for a long time - they do fail.
Any chance you disconnected or upset the tip over sensor? If the bike thinks its lying on its side it should cut the fuel.

Looks like you are nearly there so good luck.

I think I remember a thread from once before with a person that had a similar problem. If I recall correctly there is a circuit that passes through the gauge cluster and causes the bike to not start. For some reason I think it had to do with the side stand safety switch. Try plugging the gauges back in and see if the bike starts. If it does then you will know whether or not there is a safety circuit that routes through the gauge cluster.

Definitely sounds like you are homing in on the problem.

If the ECU does not detect the Neutral light it can prevent the bike from firing up. Find out why the neutral light is off! You have checked to ensure it is not in gear?

I think you should also have the oil pressure warning light illuminated (and ABS light if applicable) - is there a common connector hanging loose somewhere?

I am not sure what safety inhibitors were fitted on the early 800's, but later 800's have a heap of interlocked safety protection sensors which interact with the ECU(PGMFI). So dig out the starting and charging wiring diagrams and work through it to see what is still disconnected. Kill switch? Kick Stand sensor? Tip over sensor? Clutch sensor? Gear in neutral sensor? Starter switch connections...

Keep at it - as you said the beast ran before and once its all hooked up right then it should run again :vtr2:.

FIXED! bank angle sensor!! smack it on the ground a couple good times and it works like new! i decided to bypass it though, if anyone ever wonders, you take the green and the red/white wire going into the sensor and splice them together, the white wire you can just wrap it up, it needs no connection. shes up and running now! now for some good cleaning and the speedo and headlight! and of course paint in a few weeks ;) IMG_3559.jpg

RESULT! :clap2: - Its great to hear you found and fixed the gremlin.

By-passing the sensor is fine as a temporary measure to get the thing running, but once its running as a street fighter you should hook in the tip over protection. Its bad enough to find your bike skidding down a hill beside you - you really don't want it still running and actively trying to chase you!

Look forward to seeing pics of how she looks after the paint shop visit.

    Take care
