Akrapovic + K&N Filter - positive results on engine response

Recently removed the cumbersome OEM can on my VFR 1200 and fitted Honda Akrapovic can + K&N air filter. I can report that the dismal low rev / low gear response has not been cured, but the engine response has greatly improved. I can even say that there is a bit of induction roar going on. However, the best bit is that when I turn that throttle handle, the thing flies! I can't understand why OEM's compromise performance by attaching ridiculous exhausts. I wouldn't mind, but the OEM can on the VFR 1200 is horrendously heavy and ugly! Why don't they fit an OEM version of the Akro in the first place? The K&N filter definitely improved engine pick up. The sound of course, is awesome and it's going to be a lot easier to get the rear tyre off. I even think the fuel consumption has decreased! Has anybody else treid this combo to verify my observations?

I should clarify - it is the official Honda accessory - as supplied by your Honda dealer. Probably costs about $1000
