    Hey guys,

I'm new to the forum but I just picked up a 1986 vfr 750 from a neighbor. He had been trying to put it back together but didn't have all of the parts or time. I'm looking for nose and side fairings if anyone has any they would like to part with.
Any other advice would be great, really looking forward to getting this one back on the road.
I will try and post some pictures tomorrow if i get the chance.

    Lyndon

What is the general thought behind stock origional and fibergalss reproductions?
I feel I would like to go with all stock components but I dont know if its worth it or if any of the reproduction parts are better for one reason or another.

    Thanks for the help.

I would try to stick with stock when ever possible, I was impatient and went for fiberglass. Copies that needed repair and paint and cost me quite a bit

Well after a new battery and re building the turn signal controls I got the bike running today.
It runs a bit rough though and wont idle at all with the choke off. I have rebuilt carbs on a 92 cbr 600F2 in the past and I feel I want to give these a shot.
There is also a leak on one of the carbs, its the left side rear cylinder. I think it may just be a dried out oring that will swell back up now that it has fuel on it again.

Any suggestions on the best way to pull these carbs off the bike or anything not to do?

I have found a line on a nose fairing, it is for an 87 though and is an OEM Honda part and pre-painted white. Has anyone attempted to have one of these in a new scheme and if so with what success?

I did the carbs a few times on my old '86 VFR.

A good "better safe than sorry" advice from me would be to have new carb boots ready to go in place of the old ones that may be old, hard and possibly rotten.

If the leak doesn't fix itself you may need float bowl o-ring.

Hopefully all it needs is a good clean and synch.

Search on here, Toe Cutter has a good thread detailing a carb rebuild.

    Good luck with the bike!!

On the carbs for my 750, I have had lots of luck finding float bowl gaskets and manifold boots for an 1986 vfr 700 but very little if any for the 750. I know the engines are very similar. Are they close enough that they use the same carb parts? If they do this would really help my rebuild.

Im also still looking for a nose fairing and inner trim bits that go with it as well as a fairing stay if anyone has one.

A lot of the hardware like bolts and stays are available from Honda , I had a local Honda dealer do a search and found two nos mirrors , did you receive the right side fairing yet ?

I got alot of my missing trim bits from Honda.

My carbs were messed, and I ended up buying 4 keyster Carb kits off ebay and ended up replacing everything.

That SUCKS!!! The only way you are going to repair that is to plastic weld it. That will also most likely require that you do some cosmetic work (refinishing) on the outside once the repair is done. Unless plastic welding is something you do a lot I would take it to a body repair shop that does it and have it done right. It is really easy to screw up the piece you hope to repair when plastic welding. Good luck!
