Just checked mine, I thought there was a sticker...nope. I'll see if I can dig up the original mounting instructions. I wanna say 15lbs was the max. I frequently load mine more than that though. If you are concerned about weight, the backseat can hold at least 200lbs. A nice waterproof bag strapped on there should hold some of the bulky and heavier items no problem.

According to the 6th Gen service manual the maximum permitted weight to carry on the bike is 181Kg for the World except canada where they are allowed 185Kg. The same figures for the 5th Gen are 175Kg or 179Kg. I know the bikes can carry more than this, as I've had 200Kg on mine a couple of times :)

So you need to subtract your weight from the max & then decide how strong your pannier mounts are. Givi cases of the same period, state maximum load of 10Kg per pannier, so you should be fine with 10.5Kg provided you are not going for a zillion miles over rough ground !

I just cleaned my bike an I have the sticker still on the mounting bar for the bags. It says do not exceed 23 lbs or 10.43 KG.....I belive the weight restriction is for the actual support bar more than anything. Now I cant remember if it was per side or the total weight for both bags. I would think that it was per side. When I get home Ill snap a pic of the sticker and post.
