Guys - I'm interested in picking up a set of heli-bars to make for a more relaxed position for longer rides. I'm reading post where guys say they have .75 in, 1 in, 2 in and 3 in Heli-bars. But when I got to Heli-bars' website, I only see one offering for the VFR800, which is 1.125" Taller and 1.5" Rearward:

    https://www.helibars.com/product/honda-vfr800-replacement-handlebars-1

Am I missing something? I'd like to make it move towards a more standard position as much as possible, so the 3" option is ideal.

    Thanks!

    Nope, you aren't missing anything.
Helibars are one size for 02 up vfr 800's with the 43mm Forks.

There are other aftermarket clip ons which are adjustable (see below).

There are Variobars from Gilles tooling in England,
    http://www.gillestooling.com/
    and Convertibars
    http://www.convertibars.com/

I am still on the fence about changing the bars on my bike. The Heli's may actually be my best choice. The height of the stock bars is fine for me, but the angle for my wrists is a little tougher for me. I typically don't put much weight on my hands while riding - maybe a little only under hard braking.

They only make one option that I'm aware of. Not sure what generation VFR you have, but on my 5th gen the Heli-Bars and Sargent seat made it a totally different ride for me.

For the 6th Gen, the only option I had was choosing between silver or black. Where they mount on the forks, assuming the forks are in the stock position, there is some room there to raise them higher.

    Agreed Soloii-74.

Got me a set of the Gilles Tooling Variobars. The bar risers (the parts marked by the Red arrows in the pic) come in either 60mm,70mm,80mm,or 100mm lengths.

The machine work on these bars is absolutely exquisite and they're freakin' expensive as hell but there's soooooo much adjustability built into them that if you can't find a bar position that's comfortable you've either gotta be completely weird or a total alien. :alien:

Do you have your bars raised higher than Heli-bars? If so, how much higher than Heli-bars can you go without problems due to hoses?

Dunno Rich, how tall are the Heli's?

The 80mm risers in the Variobar kit that I've got give you approximately 3 1/4" of bar rise.
The optional 100mm risers give you approximately 4" of bar rise.

Can't help you there either my friend.

I completely removed the linked braking system from my bike and had custom made HEL Performance brake lines made for me that are a bit longer than stock and I use an Action Quick Throttle with a #44 throttle pipe and 1050mm length cables.

Just a heads-up Rich,I won't be using those 80mm risers that you see in my pic on my bike. Gonna pick me up a pair of the 60mm risers instead as I'm looking to lower my bars. You see unlike most people I actually think that the bars are too high.
Typical me,while most people are zigging I'm zagging.

As far as I know, no aftermarket bars will allow any significant rise without replacing some lines and/or cables. I use the Convertibars for more height and a more suitable hand angle but I've seen a VFR that had the convertibars mounted below the top clamp which allowed him to go both below and above the stock position with the same bars in a couple minutes. I don't recall whether or not this set up had longer lines.

What about Genmar. Anybody have these installed? Saving $100 + on the Genmars would be nice, but not if the Heli's are significantly better.

I have the Genmar risers. They are essentially spacers shaped like the cross section of a cam lobe (somewhat egg shaped).

The stock vfr bars still clamp on the fork, about an inch higher.

The spacer is just a safety feature:
It keeps the factory bar from swinging around if it loosened up.

Some guys suggest putting blue loctite on the cinch bolts and moving it up without the risers.

For me- the combo of a stiffer spring and the bar being up about an inch helps...

But at 6'1" Im still feeling it too much in my hands and knees. Not sure if a Sargent seat would be better or just more money for a bike I don't fit:(

I have an option to buy secondhand vario bars, I don't think these are Gilles tooling, judging by the writing on the box, anyone seen these before?
