Just got my '07 home. Non-abs. I downloaded the 6th gen SM, thanks.

    I'm 6'2", 200lbs with gear.

The pegs seem high. Any options for a lower peg that won't scrape in the corners?

I'll be staying with the stock suspension. (<--- read that again if you need to)

I live in the mountains, lots of winding roads. Most of my riding will be one-up, maximum 10lbs in a backpack, hard-bags off, having fun in the corners.

    Standard settings:
Front = 6mm out on the preload screw.
Rear - 2nd groove on preload cam and 1.25 turns out on the rebound.

Anyone care to share their preferred stock susp settings for canyon riding on similar year models? If I had rider weight and settings from a coupla different riders, I'd be closer to a good
    starting point.

Also, do you run a different tire pressure for canyon days vs touring with hardbags? I'm putting PR2's on the bike today.

    Thanks!

Nice post, alot of variables, not a lot of time, would be nice to see if there are consistencies. I'm 200 as well but ride a 2010. I've goofed around stiffening things up a bit but put it back to stock with the idea that I would do this if I can find the time.

My last bike was a DL 1000 and I kept it as stiff as it would go. For me the VFR is worlds better but it would be nice to get the most out if it for play time rather then commuting.

I've got the PR3's just put on, only got about 100km's on them, they feel great at recommended pressure but could not push things too much with the condition here. I have read a review that says they wear better a couple of PSI under recommended pressure.

Hopefully some of the Uber members will chime in, would be nice to speed up the learning curve from all the time and sweat they put in over the years.

    Thanks Rob.

No replies, so I used a new internet feature called "search" to find a few earlier posts.
Some good info from a guy named Jessiah, as well as a few others.

I set my tires to 42R and 36F.

I set my rear preload to 5th notch, with the rebound damper screw 1.25 turns out. I set the front preload to just show the top line, then a 1/2 turn out from there.

For a modern bike, this thing is pretty lacking in terms of suspension adjustment capability.

I went for a ride, felt pretty good in the corners. Not chatter-y at 125. Turn-in felt right, and very consistent. I did a few hard-braking trials from hwy speed, bike sat nicely, no noticeable diving.

Feels pretty good for a starting point. Will ride for a while and see what develops.

If you are sticking with the stock suspension parts then there really isn't much you can do. Probably wind the preload all of the way down on both ends. The damping adjustment on the shock should be about 0.5-1.0 turns out only to help (certainly not eliminate) wallow. There are several downsides to those settings but that's the "least" bad.

    Good luck!

I run a buck ninety geared up and I'm maxxed out on preload at both ends. Still to squishy for my taste...and a bit harsh. I'd love to have a good Penske and the Traxxion's AK-20's....course I'd like to have a wife that never bitches at me as well....if wishes were horses....beggar's would ride.

Thanks Jamie, have done and am enjoying a big improvement. Can't help but wonder how good it could get having it set up by one of you specialists....... Could you give my wife and kids a hint, Father's Day's not too far away.
