hello 1st post, i purchased my first VFR last march a 98 with heli bars, micron high mount, sergeant seat updated r/r.. had an have a 02 gsxr 1000 but wanted something to ride longer distance. I absolutely love this machine aside from the suspension. it had 25,200 on clock it now has 32,4??. has any body ever worn one of these engines out from normal riding that anyone knows of ?? an only thing i wished it had besides better suspension is less miles so i could have put them on it lol...

I've seen them as high as 165K and know several well over 100k. Despite that I had 2nd gear go out on mine at 85K, very rare though.

Welcome to the site and don't forget to post up a few pics of your ride. As vfrcapn said, there are many members on this site with many many more miles so the mileage on your bike would not concern me. As with any vehicle, just be sure to keep up with regular maintenance and the VFR should never let you down.

If you are looking for some suspension upgrades check out Jamie D. at Daugherty Motorsports - Motorcycle Suspension Performance and Modification. Jamie is a member of this site and he manufacturers suspension upgrades for the VFR in general. I had him build me a CBR929 shock for my bike last year and it made a huge difference in the bikes handling. Fairly certain that there are a few members here that would recommend his services as well.

Again, welcome to the World and keep her shiny side up.

After following the 2 main forums on VFRs for something like 6 years +....... conserning a 5th gen, from my foggy memory, I have only heard of one (1) 5th or 6th gen eating it and the mileage was in the mid 60s. (I would really have to go digging to find the thread.) - Both forums have a "what's your high mileage" thread and quite a few are 100K +.

So at 32K, your are quite fine.

Thanks for the welcomes an replies guys. yea iv read that these engines give years of reliability if maintained. a iv read about the daugherty built cbr shock an im thinking thats the route i want to go. its hard to explain but i feel like im losing the front when im in a curve i can feel it sometimes dropping it doesnt feel like a slide maybe pushing? if that makes any since.. but it scares the crap out of me.. i know its not the speed cause im slow as all get out.. im running 36psi front 42psi rear on michelin roads.. what is the fix for the forks without breaking the bank if i go with the cbr shock from daugherty ?

If you were to talk with Jamie D. about the rear shock, maybe ask him about redoing the front end as well. You would have to send him the forks but I seriously doubt you would have anything to complain about once Jamie was done. I'm sure Jamie could offer some suggestions as to what might be happening with the front end as well. Though I am not a suspension expert by any means I'm sure there may be someone here who could offer a suggestion as to what could be happening.

    Nice looking machine.

Stock 5th gen after awhile does have a bit of a push in steering on the front end. I know your intension is to upgrade the suspension, but a quick thing to do is to drop the forks in the triples 6 - 8 mm. That will help quicken the steering untill you go upgrading.

Look up a guy named Stan Wilson. He was a courier that logged about 2.5 million miles during his career. He favorite bike out of the many that he owned was the VFR.

1989 Honda VFR750 FK - 149,000 - knocked over at an airport, then traded in
1990 Honda VFR750 FL - 852,000 - engine replaced at 440,000 after it blew its head gasket

Yeah, I wouldn't be too concerned about 32 thousand!

I have a question for all. I lowered the vfr with a kit from sigma cycles. New dogbone and side stand lowered the front end as recommended. Ride beautiful solo. But when my wife is on it the rear bottoms out on bumps and dips. No I'm not telling her to go to the gym she goes enough as is lol. Anyone have a good way to adjust the rear shock for two up.

The only two ways to help this situation that I am aware of is more pre-load or stiffer springs. Stiffer springs will obviously cost you more as pre-load is free!

I rode my 3rd gen, 92 VFR to 190,000 miles. I sold her to a friend who was bugging me for about 5 yrs to sell her to him. He still has her and she has about 225,000 on the ticker now and he says she is running just fine. I love my 5th gen so far. But, I need to look into the suspension as well. I need to dig through the threads here and figure what to do. BTW, I raised the forks on my 92 about 3-4mm in the clamp, worked wonders on how solid the front end felt.
