I just bought a 2005 Interceptor & really enjoying it so far - (coming from the VTX 1800 which I haven't sold yet cause I wanted to first see which one I enjoy more???) Anyway, bieng a first time sport bike/touring sport bike user, I find my hands & lower back are a bit sore after riding for a while. It could be that I'm not used to it yet. However, I'm thinking of purchasing heli bars (I think that is what they are called???) that will supposedly raise the stock handle bars up 1.25 inches & back 1.5 inches as compared to the stock bars. Has anyone purchased these & if so, what were your results???

    Thanks in Advance,

    Paul

I have HELI BARS on my 99 VFR and love them.they helped big time. to keep from being sore try to keep relaxed and dont put a deathgrip on the bars .

Check ebaymotors.com for heli bars / you might find some at a good price. I think they go for about $230-260 a set new...

Remember to keep your knees tight, and your back straight. With a little tension in your back keeping it straight you shouldn't have any weight on your hands. You should be able to operate your throttle with your thumb and forefinger in a ring.

I'm heard really good reviews of the heli bars. I just loosened my handbars and slipped them up the forks until they hit the retaining rings and that's plenty high for me (and free). One of the ladies here ( I forget who) removed the retainning rings and raised the bars to the top of the forks.

    Welcome to VFRs!

I bought my bike with the heli bars already on and have never taken them off. I can pretty much sit upright with them on and the bike seems pretty comfortable. My back still hurts occasionally but I try to remember to sit with good posture and that helps. Usually if I notice my back hurting, I noticed that I'm hunched over instead of keeping my spinal alignment.

I have helibars on my 2005. They made a big difference over the standard bars. I have a back problem and just couldn't manage any significant distance with the standard bars. I would be a wreck after 45min to an hour. With the heli's I am good for 2 to 3 hours with a bit of stretching. The heli's are not perfect for comfort but on the other hand the viffer isn't intended to be a wing.

ConvertiBars here and they are some kinda fine. You
have full adjustment. Up and down, front to back,
also you can get diff degree to the fork. They do
cost, but they are WELL worth it.

I just bought a 96 VFR that came with helli bars on it. After a few days I took off the heli's and put the stock bars on. The heli's were a bit too high for me.

    Heli bars

I purchased heli bars for my 03 (which I piled up) and they were superb. I rode cross country with 2 Harleys guys. They were tiring a lot faster than myself and caused us to stop more frequently than I prefered. So in my opinion they helped a great deal.

I have Installed the Gen mar risers on my 92 and I appreciate the better look although they are not quite as high. The heli bars may require some wiring loosening

    Hey Paul,
We share the VTX 1800 to VFR switch. I have had my '06 for one month and 2300 miles. Found it at a dealership with zero miles on it.
I have thought about risers too. For what its worth, a 400 mile day still wears my 42 year old body out, but not as bad as the VTX did. In both cases, I think that correct posture is the solution.
I have added a few things to the bike. Living in the mountians of NC, Hotgrips has been my favorite mod. I added a Corbin seat, so I would have a sissy bar for riding my kids. For me its just diffrent, not better than stock. I never had a problem with Honda saddles.
I added some Corbin Beetle Bags also, to say the least, they are expensive junk. I am trying to get Corbin to ship me a replacement set, while I use the defective ones. This is against thier polocy, but only just, to my sensibilities.
The future plans include a Whistler Cruisader radar dector, and perhaps a Givi or other brand wind screen.
In conclusion, the VFR out performs the VTX on every level, with the exception of two up riding. I hope that you are enjoying your as much as I am mine!
    Mac
