i just bought my first vfr in jan. it didn't come with an owners manual. no biggy i'll find one online. it did have the tools but the guy didn't have them on the bike when i picked it up. we originally made plans to meet half way so i could get them, but that fell through and now he's just ignoring my requests to come get the tools. total dick maneuver, if you ask me.

so my question is... what's in the tool bag of a 99 vfr? is it stuff that's easily put together or should i go take the time to find an og tool pack?

Not sure if its the same kit as supplied with a UK 6th gen but here is a photo of what came with mine.

Hopefully this should give you an idea whether its worth the hassle trying to obtain the original. The only thing I have had to use is the chain adjusting spanner.

thanks for the input. looks like i'll probably just gather a couple of "just in case" tools. i'll be sure to include a spanner in there.

One example of why you wouldn't want to leave home without it....
I recently changed the spark plugs on mine and come to find out the spark plug wrench was missing from the tool kit. I don't have any metric "spark plug" sockets. (the kind that have the rubber grommet inside that grips the plug) I had to use a ratchet two different length extensions and a deep well metric socket. Since there is no grommet on the inside of that deep well socket I couldn't get the plugs out. So I had to use a telescoping magnet to get them out. Got the job done but took more time to do it. Spark plugs can go bad out on the road. Sure you can limp it home but what if you're a long way from home? I sure wouldn't want to be without that tool kit...it fits in a confined space under the seat. I know you can buy tools of great quality but these tool kits are far from being junk. Just saying.

I know this will make me sound like a smart ass...not my intent just making a point...after changing the spark plugs I cleaned, lubed and adjusted the chain while I had the tool kit out. Having a spanner wrench with me to adjust the chain while out on a ride is the furthest thing from my mind. Unless I was on a coast to coast adventure. :)
