Hi, my name is Ralph and I'm from Wales in the UK, I've been riding bikes now for more years than I care to think about, I am no stranger to Vfr's as I owned one years ago and I must say its good to be back with this fab bike.
I wonder if anyone can help me? as my bike is an import the speedo is in kilometers, is It possible to buy a converter to stick on the speedo to show the speed in MPH.
Hope some one can help, Ralph.

    Hi Ralph

Welcome to the Madhouse - croeso i'r seilam - (hope that's about right...)

Its great to hear you have a VFR - but until you post up some photos - you'll get a lot of ragging - they really like photos here...

As for the speedo - I think stick on convertors will only work on conventional cable speedos. There is something called a speedo healer which can tweek a digital gauge slightly to give a more accurate reading, but I am not sure if it can be set up to achieve a full KPH to MPH adjustment. A few of the folks on here have them fitted and may be able to check whether the manual indicates it would be possible. A google search found this website which says their speedohealer will convert a speedometer from KPH to MPH -

HealTech Electronics Ltd. - Makers of the SpeedoHealer, GIpro, X-TRE, FI Tuner Pro, Brake Light Pro, MM5, OBD Tool

Anyway assuming your VFR has some version of digital speedo fitted, then you are probably looking at replacing the speedo unit if you need it to the display in MPH rather than KPH. Unfortunately the digital speedos fitted on mainland Europe models do not normally have the option to switch the display to MPH. However to comply with UK and EU rules the bikes manufactured for the UK market had a special "E type" speedometer fitted which can be switched using a button sequence listed in the UK owners manual - "push and hold select button for more than 2 seconds to toggle between displays". But I doubt this will work for an imported bike.

Your best bet is to check eBay and contact motorbike dismantlers to see if someone has a suitable UK spec one. A new one from Honda will not be cheap. I think you may need help from a dealer to get the new speedo to work and transfer over mileage info etc.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

You didn't say what year your bike was but my 2007 sixth gen made for the US market can be switched from mph to Km's by buttons as skimad said.

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately my bike is 1998 model so the switch mode is not available.I was wondering if a clear stick on converter is available, the type you place on the speedo glass if you know what I mean.

I wouldn't spend a whole pile of money on any converter for your ride. You only have to worry about a few common speeds under most circumstances and that will burn into your memory pretty quick. You can use a lable maker to put stcikers on your speedo for a few months then remove them. By that time you will remember that:

30 mph = 50 kmh Give or take
    45 mph = 70 kmh " "
    50 mph = 80 kmh " "
    60 mph = 96 kmh " "
100 mph = 160 kmh but of course you would never do that.
