Are O2 Sensor Bypasses required when using a Powercommander IIIUSB on a 2001 VFR800FI?The installation instructions claim these are only necessary on California models. If so,why? Also,on the Powercommander website there are very few maps available-Is there any site where more maps are available?Only mods on my bike are K&N filter and D&D cf slip-on.

hey JB; I recently bought a 2000 VFR and want to install a USB 3 power
commander. I also had trouble finding any decent maps. I recently spoke to
a power commander tech guy about the Oxygen senors. He said that he
would get back to me, that was about 3 weeks ago! I also plan on removing
the exhaust system and cutting the catalyst can open in order to remove the cat.grids. I will keep you in the info loop if you promise to do the same. ed

YOU BET! Installed Power Commander IIIUSB,and downloaded Map from PC website for aftermarket slip-on and aftermarket filter. No more flat spot and roll-ons from 4K-up seem noticably stronger.Ordered O2 Sensor Eliminators as told by Tech at PC.Will inform whether noticable.Future mods include Dyno tuning and PAIR Valve block-off.

Hey JB; Sounds like you made a good choice with the USB 3, can you tell me the map number that you are using now? Also when removing the oxygen sensors do you just unscrew them from the cat. and cut the cables off? If this is their recommendation,I am not sure how the cut wires would effect the on board computer. Thanks ed

The map I am using from the Powercommander website is M106-303 until I can get one personalized on a Dyno. Unplug the Oxygen Sensor wire then install the Oxygen Sensor Eliminators in place of the plug. This allows the ECU to read lean and richen accordingly. The Eliminators are available from the Powercommander website(same as Maps). Hope that helps.

The PAIR valve, is that the vaccum operated damper on the air intake plenum?

I have an '06 and you unplug the O2 sensors at a connector and plug in the resitor pack. You do not remove the O2 sesor from the exhaust un less you have threaded plugs to replace them with. If you don't eliminate the O2 sensors the ECU will try and correct the fuel/air ratio and undo the changes made by the PCIII. The resistor pack just gives the ECU a steading reading so it will not try correct.

Thank you for the correction. Is it also true that to get a precise DYNO reading, the PAIR block-off is essential(seems to make sense)?

Installed the Oxygen Sensor Eliminators with good results.Power now seems extremely linear from 3k-9k rpm with no flat spots and better response. Can't wait to make a custom MAP on a DYNO.Installation of O2 elims was very simple: remove left fairing, trace wires from O2 sensors to plug behind coolant overflow bottle, disconnect, plug O2 elims in their place, cut O2 sensor wires at the sensors, replace fairing.

What is the cost for a PowerCommander?? Thinking of decatting the bike and installing a decent slip-on

    EDIT: Found it: $ 250-340

Also, its a piggy-back, that retains the standard ECU??

Are the lambda sensors removed, normally they are used to control the fuel rate!
