Seeking some advice on those who have installed a voltmeter.

I've got a marine analogue gauge coming, and will be installing it up on the front fairing.

What is the best way to wire this up?

Details and specifics welcomed. I'm not the most technical guy, but my mate is and he will be helping me, so I'll pass this onto him.

    Cheers

Check out this link. I used it as a guide when I did the voltmeter install on my Datel meter last year. I think post #20 has a good wiring diagram showing how to wire the gauge with the use of a relay so that it cuts power to the gauge when the bike is off. I have a digital gauge on my bike that draws very little power and I could have wired direct to the battery but I wanted the added insurance.

    Here's another voltmeter thread...
Waterproof Volt meter - Electrical - VFR Discussion

Wiring wise, the best wire route is down the left side of the bike, just follow the stock harness. Then no matter how you wire it, you should add a fuseblock to the positive side of the battery. Some guys power a relay from the rear taillight so the voltmeter is power on by the key. The other alternate is to have a switch to directly turn the voltmeter on/off. I went this route, (pics in the Lascar thread) because I like to check the battery before I power the bike up. My switch is under the seat, but with the attached thread, there is tons of creativity on ideas of which way to go.

    Hope this helps.

Found this & bought one to put on my other bike (ZZR250) If I'd seen this earlier I would have added it to my 5th Gen too.
