Hey guys, on my 86 vfr700 I'd like to buy Pirelli Sport Demon tires. Stock size up front, but in back they don't carry the 130/80/18.

What they do have is a 130/70/18 which is 1" shorter meaning it will lower the rear of the bike 1/2" changing the steering angle. Would this negativly effect the handling? It feels twitchy as is, so maybe doing this will add straight line stability?

The stock diameter is available in a slightly wider 140/70/18 which all the threads say is okay to run.

I'm just trying to pick the best option.

    Any opinions?

I would run the 140, will be a bit harder to mount but would probably be a better bet.

yeah what he said a 140/70 if it will fit the rim width, the narrower rim will force the profile a bit taller, so similar to you 130/80. Avon tyres are one of the few that print all the data re their tyres. Take a look here Roadrider | Avon Tyres

    Examples
size--load/spd index - rec rim (in) - alt rim (in) min/max - width (mm) - width (in) - dia (mm) - dia (in)
    130/80-18 -- (66V) - MT2.75 - 2.50/3.50 - 137mm - 5.4" - 672mm - 26.5"
    130/70-18 -- (63V) - MT3.50 - 3.00/4.00 - 133mm - 5.2" - 649mm - 25.6"
    140/70-18 -- (67V) - MT3.75 - 3.50/4.50 - 142mm - 5.6" - 666mm - 26.2"

    Hope that helps.

This is America, you can do whatever you want!

Yes, running a shorter rear tire will hurt the handling of your VFR. The tire isn't your worst problem though.
