Hi everyone – I’ve been roaming this forum for months now… lot of great discussions, and people. I fell in love with the 1st Gen Interceptor, and I think I may have found “the one”… I would really appreciate your thoughts!

    Some information:
    - approx. 30K km (20K miles)
    - Carbs cleaned
    - Tank sealed
    - Starts-up with no efforts, and idles great
    - New brake pads, tires, battery
    - Original parts – well maintained
    - Exterior looks good, no dings/bumps
    - Paint not as shiny as it could be
    - Can’t ride it because Canada=frozen solid outside. But bike goes in all gears with no efforts.

Does it look like a good price – should I try to go lower??

If I buy, you can bet I’ll post pics! (I hear it’s the rule around here…)

For that bike in turn key condition it sounds like a reasonable price. As long as it needs nothing except a little polishing I'd consider it for sure. There is one question though, is the rear shock stock? If so it will need replaced. Even when new they were mediocre at best and didn't last long either. That could cost you between $100(if real lucky) to $300+ maybe. I have seen Fox Twin clickers for sale at times and would be a nice shock to have. So if it is you may want to get him down a little IMO. Are you mechanically inclined?

Go for it. If it's what you want then why waste time and risk losing the bike worrying about the best possible price? Sounds like it's in the right ballpark. I agree with gray, don't forget to budget funds for suspension upgrades and I'll include proper riding gear.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I am happy and reassured to hear that the price seems "reasonable" for the state of the bike... It's just a matter of jumping in I guess!

I am not sure about the state of the suspension - so I'll ask the owner. At least I'll know what I'm in for if it hasn't been redone/changed.

In terms of my mechanical abilities - well, I'd say I'm far from a mechanic... however, I think I'm agile with my hands, and with the correct information - I would be able to maintain a bike like this. I see there is tons of info here in this forum, and if it's not there - well, the experts are here!

I'll let you know how it turns out...! And thanks again for your input!

BUMP! Those of you who have seen the wreck I bought...LOL. I would jump in with both feet if you like this bike. Set your own price, and negotiate. Spend what you are happy with. I am thinking you didn't buy given the age of the original post, but maybe you still would. Good for you either way.

Nice looking bike! It even has the sticker on the tank. Some of the best and easiest things to do to your bike for all around betterness is a good 10w fork oil (no ATF/7w) 5# air, braided brake lines (really improves braking) plus good pads, a Fox Twin Clicker(hens teeth) or any better rear shock. That bike looks cherry for a 83. Just a little polishing and clean up looks like all it needs. You guys have the neat wheels that we over here didn't get.

Enjoy it, it's a fun bike.

Looks great! Congratulations. You might want to give Jamie at Daugherty Motorsports a call and get his recommendations about your suspension. He's extremely knowledgable and won't hard sell you, just good info and suggestions. Time to get out your polish and wax. Have fun.

Looks and sounds very nice. I'd love to find one. I had a new '83 in red and miss it terribly.

The wheels look cool to me too, but that may have to do with them just not really being here... kinda like Japanese writing signs in english, or Americans writing signs in kanji.

besides, the comstars are not nearly as sturdy as the cast aluminum ones we got.

Congrats on the old but new toy!! Before you go and start spending a fortune on customizing it you should be fully aware that these older Interceptors are very prone to top-end oiling issues that can lead to valve problems and premature wear on the cam lobes and/or rockers. Look into doing the mod to increase the oil flow to the top end of the engine so that the bike doesn't suffer any serious engine damage. This is a well documented issue and you can find out plenty more by using Google. Good luck and keep us posted!!
