Ok, I just joined up so I can ask some questions now . I just bought a 84 vf700f,total creampuff, been parked since 1998. So my first project was a Carb rebuild, I've been doin this stuff since I was 9 ,and I'll be 44 this month, so the work isn't a problem. But I took apart the first Carb to find that someone has glued the diaphragm were it was torn, it actually looks like it has held ok,but I'm kinda a perfectionist so I'd like to replace it. As I'm sure you know they've discontinued these so I'm stuck looking for a good used one,or I found some replacement rubber diaphragms but I'm not sure how well that works.so my question is: on the slider where the diaphragm connects is a colored ring, mine is red,but most of the used ones I've found are black or tan,so what does this color mean and are they interchangeable? If anyone knows what this means I'd sure appreciate your help getting this sorted out. And if anybody has an extra one around they would part with I'd be interested. Thanks Don
It's one of our recurring and most scary issues, not easy to get good info. Glue doesn't work for long. A service in England does a diaphram replacement on your slide i think.
Thank you squirrelman. I've found a diaphragm replacement kit on eBay,but I wasn't sure if it was easily done or if it required some special tool or technique, so I'm kinda leaning toward a used one even though we all know how that can go. Have you ever replaced the diaphragm on one?
That's a mystery to me too, replacing a diaphram; i've only replaced entire slides. Do some searching and try Hawk GT Forum for more info. Never heard of anyone able to buy the rubber diaphram or replace one. Specialist work, not for the home tinkerer.
