I'm looking to replace my clutch master cylinder on my 84 vf700f but the part has been deemed "obsolete" by the manufacturer and anyone who seems to be selling on the internet. I realize I can look for people parting out (which I would love to hear from if thats you) but I have found that the 84 vf500f clutch master cylinder is still in production and I was wondering if I could just use that to swap out for my master cylinder. ALL I NEED is the master cylinder itself and the cover -- the diaphram, rods, lever, etc. are all in perfect condition. Would the 500 model master cylinder be an ample substitute or am I going to have to wait until I find someone who has the 700?
Look up and see what rebuild kit each uses - if it is the same then I think it will work the same. The other difference may be the angle of the master cylinder in relation to the handle bar.
For anyone who is still wondering - i did replace my master cylinder with one from the 500 model and it works great! the only problem i have had so far is that the glass is a little leaky but otherwise it functions perfectly.
