well after further researching with dynojets technical staff on installing and utilizing the PC5 on an 1998 vfr800 theyv'e finally emailed me back and stated yes the 96 to 98 PC5 for the vfr800 will be a direct plug in to the older bikes and will be capable of utilizing the wide band O2 module (self-tune) feature. altho they did say i wont be able to utilize the timing adjustment feature on it tho, it wont support it on the older vfr's. and since i have an aftermarket header with O2 bung i just as well utilize the newer software available. just thought i'd share that in case anyone with the 2005 and older vfr800's ever considered using the PC5 for its added features over the PC3's The PC5 unit (and Auto-tune) listed for the 2006-2009 VFR800 will technically work on your 1998 model. however There is NOT an available Ignition Module accessory, We only offer fuel control for the VFR800. Let me know if you have any further questions. Regards,Chris Kelly Dynojet Research Inc. 2191 Mendenhall Dr. Suite 105 North Las Vegas, NV 89081 1-800-992-4993
no i just posted the email reply in case anyone wanted to contact the rep and confirm for themselves since when i 1st joined this sight i had a few altercations with a few members. im just an avid mechanic who is always unsatisfied with any factory HP rating knowing theres always hidden power in every gas engine produced wether it be auto, bike, marine or whatever.
as far as the ignition timing issue goes im going to address that hopefully when i get to it by (in laymans terms) by altering the timing plate by 1 to 3 degrees advanced similar to how you can order certain offset crank keys for a briggs and stratton engine for example moving the flywheel 1 degree or more advanced by utilizing offset keys on the crank or as in an example referencing chevy HEI distributor advancing the ignition plate by an aftermarket spring kit. referenced spring kit comes with 3 assortment sets of springs each yielding different centrifugal strengths allowing only certain amount of advance by spring strength used. i havent got that far yet but i know its possible to alter. in wich manner i will know more once i get that far.
