Spray a little WD40 inside the lock, place pressure on the seat while turning the key. Work well for me
    Good luck

Key really don't turn very far and the seat dosen't exactly pop up like some do, as you would expect a car hood would or something. Turn the key while pressing down slightly on the back of the seat and see if it turns any farther (don't force it, you're just gonna ruin the key). If the key dosen't turn any farther just turn it and lift up on the back of the seat cause that's how I allways have to get mine off.

As above. Sounds like the last time the seat was put on, who ever did so, didn't fully engage the seat into its locking mechanisms.

Maybe I'm just a doofus but I'm just not getting it up. I've pressed down all over the seat, sprayed copius amounts of WD40, and turned and turned the key...... nothing. VFR mocks me.

Try to lift the back of the seat while turning the key. Lift and push forward to the front
    Of the bike.

As you turn the key, try getting your fingers beneath the rear most part of the seat and gently pull upwards while also pulling backwards. Just a thought. But it really sounds more like it is jammed somehow against the locking mechanisms underneath. Unless we look at it, this could be hard to figure out. But I really do hope you have some success getting it up soon. There are professionals who can help you with that.

Good now have someone turn the key to see if the cable move at all. If not then you might have to do some disassembly and relube the cable and make some adjustment. Good luck

    ^^^^and:

That looks pretty dry up in there and some surface rust. Now that you have this accessible, try some WD40 up where the latch meets the mechanism. That may be what is holding you back. Tap that area a little with a hammer lightly, or a screw driver to crack any rust that may have caked this tgether. But you are not wrecking this, Just a few taps. If that does not work, move onto some other idea.

It looks like that seat has not been removed for a long time.

OK, I'll risk being an idiot. Never stopped me before.

On my bike, when I turn the key, it stops 3/4 of the way, but then I have to push down on the lever directly behind the key, and viola, the seat pops up. Turning my key to the "stopping point" doesn't release the seat.

I know, I know. But I re-read this thread and no one mentioned that.

Have you actually ever had the seat off before, Infinity?

Methinks the OP needs to look at a drawing of the locking mechanism to see how it works. The attach point on the seatpan and the latch on the locking mechanism are directly above the key slot.

Pushing down on seat at those points may do the trick. Me? I'd get some fastass harleydoodette to sit on the seat whilst cycling the key. Tne roads are full of them when they fall off and they work cheap.

No I've never had the seat off. The real issue is my batterbattery seems to be dead. I'm trying to get to the battery to connect the trickle charger.

Brotha, I have sat my big butt on the seat while someone else turned. And it does only go 3/4 turn. If I knew what else to take off, I would. I can't see how to get to the cable to fix it, lube it, whatever.

Sometimes, when I have a key that doesn't want to work all the way, I flip it so the opposite side teeth are at the "top" of the lock and see if that works.

If you have a double-sided key, that is...

Are you SURE this is the right key for the lock? On my '85, I have two keys - one for the ignition and seat, and one for the gas tank. My other bikes only have ONE key for both.

Maybe you need a different key?

    Good luck,

    dv

We are trying everything here so why not rub some (a lot) of graphite o the key an ram it in and out a few times. A pencil lead works great. That is probably the best lubricant for locks and keys.
