Looking to replace the clutch on my 98 vfr 800, just wonder'd if its difficult? I have a workshop manual and I'd say I'm fairly handy with mechanics (brakes, bearings, electrics, cambelts on cars ect) and is there any tips u wouldn't mind sharing. Many thanks.

Not that hard just have to pay attention when you remove all the plates, make sure to stack them in the same order and let the new clutch friction plates bath in oil for 15 minutes. The hard part for me is remove the old gasket....It is a PITA I should just keep the old one.

Like he ^ sed above, also, when I am working on my stuff, I like to soak the new friction plates in an oil bath prior to install, I usually do a day or so. Thats just me, its a two beer job if you have your handy 8mm speed handle handy...You may want to take it apart and see how the metal plates are, if they are in good nick and not blued, you could just pop for the new frictions. Get new springs though, that makes a difference in lever feel and engagement...Cheers :drinkers:

I ordered a barnett complete clutch kit from ebay (Barnett Clutch Kit Honda VFR750F 1990 97 VFR 750 | eBay) last week for my '94. Shipping was pretty fast. I am pretty sure the guy has a kit for other bikes and the 5th gen too. The price was the cheapest. I haven't installed yet. I wanted a complete kit since last time I checked my clutch, the oem steel plates had hair line cracks showing. The thickness and stack height were within spec but I was experiencing slippage above 5k rpms at full throttle. I had cleaned the hydraulics but that didn't fix it. My '94 has 55k miles on it with original clutch.

You are right scuba. I mentioned the seller has kits for other bikes too. Thanks for posting the link the 5th gen too.
I forgot to mention that I contacted the seller to ask about local pickup and possible off ebay price since his listed place was same as mine (Modesto). But he ships from West Sacramento.
