Has this happened to anyone else? If so, where was the short located?
The fuse will pop every time I put the key in and turn it to the ON position. Sort of neat to watch as it cost me a box of 5 fuses until I figured out "When" it was happening.

This happened to me once and for the life of me I could not figure out why. Turned out that at one point when I removed the rear fairing and re-installed it I managed to pinch one of the turn signal wires in between the two positioning plugs on the tail light assembly and the back of the frame. Took me forever to figure that out. If the fuse is blowing constantly then you likely have a wire grounding somewhere and popping the fuse. Check all the wires for whatever items are covered by that fuse and make sure none of them are grounding to the frame or have any bare spots.

It happened just after I removed the rear fairing... I will re-check things tonight or tomorrow and report back. Good to know the exact same thing happened to someone else!

If you did pinch one of the wires by accident it might be a good idea to remove the rear cowl and just check the wiring harness for the rear lights just to make sure that none of the others are damaged as well. The license plate light wires can easily become pinched as well (if you still have the factory plate holder and light combo). I think the plate light is also on the same circuit and that wire is somewhat exposed to the elements.

well I have just made myself tired... I have been cracking my skull for five hours looking for a pinch or a short. No Luck. My Digital Volt Meter crapped out on me too. Maybe I should spend the rest of the weekend drinking at the beer festival and resume this task later.
I have the body work off, disconnected the front controls from the harness, horn, signals, even the black caps on the rear bulbs... still a mystery.

these pics show that the PO effed up the headlight bulbs and melted the rubber shroud around the base.

FIXED - the last thing I unplugged on the front of the harness stopped the fuse from popping. Ready for this... front brake lever switch was arching out on the handlebar. There was no metal to metal touching, it simply arched through the tiny gap and onto the handlebar riser. I took it off via the two 8mm bolts on the bar clamp, reseated the connector and double wrapped it in electrical tape. I then put a small patch of duct tape on the riser. Re-attached the clamp and lever assembly. Problem solved. I remember pushing down on the front brake lever at a stop light the other day, this must have contributed to the problem.
Anyway, enough dumb shit from me for one day. I have Mtn Biking in the morning and need my beauty sleep! :)

Beat me to it. I had the same thing happen to me on a week long trip. Only found out the cause once I got back & jumped online
