Sounds good, just check out the dealer. He should be registered and have a licence to trade in Aus it is fairly easy to check them out - not sure in CA but the road trip sounds great.
Have brought several cars and bikes sight unseen. I enjoy the exitment of the unknown (Im not saying I recommend this habit as it is probably an illness)! Generally the vehicle has been at least as good as expected if not better....but I did get burnt once on an Alfa Romeo but I guess people have to sell them some how! If I was you I would not be able to hold out 4 weeks but I think you should only purchase sight undseen if you have the finances not to be crippled or divorced should it be a lemon!
Look up a bike shop in the area and have a mechanic or someone from the shop check it out for you. $50 for them will be well worth your piece of mind.
Exactley my thoughts what zulufox suggested. since its a dealer they had there shop completely go though the bike right???. Bought my current bike that way..tons of pictures and it helped that the po was in his 50's knowing it was not abused or crashed by some nuby. My one and only time was a great experience..to believe in what someone says and actually have it be true. Also I drove in winter weather from LA to Tahoe to get it. Good luck what ever you do
