I was wondering what if any concerns there would be wiring to the high beam and then riding for extended periods of time using your high beam. Doing so would put a constant source of power to a switch that was designed and meant to be a momentary contact switch. There was no intent for power to be going through the system constantly on a remote. I just don't know if that could damage the switch over time. Or cause a fire in a worse case scenario .

Randy, see my post above. I worried about this too, but had a spare remote given to me and nothing much to lose. I've had no problems with it in 5 years of use, including extended use of high beam.

There is a way to hook up the 3.3v remotes to the high beams as well. Just use a 30 amp relay, like the one used for aftermarket horns. Granted, these mods are very invasive to your remote.

My garage door opens when I rev. It takes a second, but it works every time. It works likes this: Pull up and rev engine, wait for the vibrations to trigger the opening mechanism. At this point the opening mechanism moves from the interior to the exterior and opens the door. It super simple, it even closes it behind me without a second rev.

She does it all with a smile too!

On my BMW I have it clipped to my windscreen on a non visible (from the front) spot. I leave it there when riding in the rain and never have any problems. I'd love to do this on the VFR but it will look like crap (b/c there are no non visible spots on the windscreen). So I have been keeping an opener in my pocket but think that is a PITA so am considering attaching it to the top of the brake resevoir using 3M Dual Lock (Dual Lock Reclosable Fastener :3M US) This is the stuf they usually use to mount electronic toll collection system devices to the windshelds of cars. The stuff is super strong .and the opener can be removed if it raining or if you leave your bike. Aerostich sells it for $10 but if you can find it in a local store it will likely be cheaper.

I just removed the remote from my car visor and moved it to a convenient pocket of my tank bag; it works just fine.

Ok, I bit the bullet and bought a $10 Gennie GTR3 off of EBay, went to Frys electronics and spent $7 on components, broke out my soldering iron and can now open/close the garage door with the high beam headlight switch! :rapture: I followed the instructions on these links:
Installing a Garage Door Opener Wired to Motorcycle Hi-Beam
How-To: Garage Door Opener Using High Beam Switch - CBR Forum - Enthusiast forums for Honda CBR Owners
Special Applications with SPDT Relays, Diagrams

Sorry, I didn't take any pictures. But wow, it's really cool to be able to have the garage door going up before I'm even in the driveway. The little key fob remote that was on my key ring had about a 10 foot range. This set up is good for about 50 yards.
