Hi I have a 2005 Viffer and had fitted a heavy duty harness from Wire my bike, the idea being that it might prevent problems with the Rec/Regulator. Some time later the said rec/reg died, frying the battery in the process. Not uncommon I know. But the new rec/reg was found to be putting out 19.2 v when comnected to the heavy duty harness. So retroconnected to the original harness it put out 14.2 v and all was good.
I then, some weeks later found myself stopped a hundred plus kms from home. To cut to the chase the Honda dealer blamed the Hid low beams and the two four inch Hid (100mm) driving lights which were wired into the high beam, as required by law here in Australia.
The Ecu was suspected as no spark or fuel was available to the engine. However this model had a recall on the front harness which had not been done to my bike. So a new harness was fitted and presto all systems go!
Now the question is has any one had similar problems with their bikes with Hids fitted. Since the harness was fitted three months ago I have continued to run the Hid low beams also from WireMYBIke and have no problems. I have been hesitant to refit the Hid driving lights. Yet I see heaps of them on Farrider ST1100 and St1300 bikes and the blokes have no problems. I have done to Iron Butt Rides and really need as much light as I can get, roos are bad news at dusk, night and dawn here in Queensland. Any ideas, input would be welcomed.

No expert here. The previous owner of my 07 had installed low and high beam HID's and there has been no problems with any of my electrics in the 4000 mi. That I put on the bike last year. The HID's draw less current (except at start up) than the halogens so I can't see why they would be a problem for you. I am in the process of converting my high beams back to Halogens though because of the delay in warm up time with the HID's, but the low beams are AWSOME!!!!

For folks who have HID's on your bikes, can you please post which HID bulbs and ballasts you are running. I am thinking to get this done eventually and need some advice. Thanks, (Sorry Freightrain to hijack your thread :) )

Hi Outboard John, thanks for the response. I have the same as you ie halogen high beams and hid low beams. And I agree that the low beams are bloody good. Perhaps our rural roads are less in quality and surface than yours. And I found the halogen high beams wanting to say the least. The HID driving lights are truly awesome in that they have the same lighting effect as the low beams but much more penetration down the road. Great for roos. I guess I am searching for reassurance that they will not fry my rec/reg or front wiring loom. I want to undertake another Iron Butt ride which requires running through the night on the speed limit and at my age I don't bounce too well! SO need to see the furry buggers.

I had the two Hid driving lights wired from the high beam headlight wire to the Driving light switch then through a quality relay to the lights with inline waterproof fuses and 6mm wire, to get maximum voltage at the lights ( read ballasts in this case)
    Cheers
Have you been running Hid, low beams and high beams with driving lights? or just low beams?
    Cheers

Mate I bought my hid low beams from WireMyBike.com. Joshua gives great service and is great to deal with. His units are the same as the ones from DDM trading. The closer you get the kelvin output to 4800 the more like daylight the output is. I,m pretty sure mine are 5000 kelvins.
They are great lights and cheap. I had one fail on me and testing revealed it was not the globe. So thinking it might be a ballast I ordered a new total kit from Joshua. He emailed me suggesting a few tests to do as he thinks it may be just a loose connector. I haven't had time to get to it yet. But how many blokes would give you the good oil when they could just sell you the goods on order!
    Cheers

    Hopefully this isn't too late?

I installed this 5000K 55W Dual Hi/Lo kit on my 4th gen. The 5000K still stays pure white, due to the high wattage. I drive with dark visors, and these rock at night!! Also, there's no warmup time on them, when switching lo/hi/lo etc. The high beam is on, the instance you flip it on. The killer of it all...I have a set of HID's on my bike, for less than $60! Oh, and they also sell red T10 LED lights, fitting our red viffers instrument gauges perfectly. That red cluster looks awesome at night, compared to the regular white. Just saying.....

And keep in mind that Honda H4 bulb wings are wider than standard H4's. So you have to spend 10 minutes modifying your headlight case. And good luck fitting everything in there (took me 4 tries! :chaingun:)

HID Kits, BMW Aftermarket Bumpers & Lighting, DEPO - DDM Tuning If you look these guys up, they have a bad rap. I've only had good experiences with them. And just keep in mind, people tend to be more outspoken, when they feel wronged.
